Switching from evening workouts to morning workouts

So the ******* premier in my province has shutdown gyms in my city for at least 28 days.

Managed to get a monthly membership at an LA Fitness in the next city over. However the lineups are pretty ridiculous (had to wait an hour to get into the gym the last time fukn lol) so I am probably going to shift from 9pm workouts to 6am workouts.

Any morning brahs here? You guys find any noticeable difference between working out in the afternoons/evenings and the mornings?

The feel when not home gym masterrace and am a globo gymcel

Inb4 there is a line up at the gym before 6am which is opening.

I've been training at 5 AM for almost the past 15 years now. I absolutely love it.

Train Fasted
Take Pre-Workout (hits like a train on an empty stomach)
Gym is empty
Great way to jumpstart your day
Fuel your body with food the rest of the day and recover
Evenings free to do whatever you want

I've tried getting up at 5am but my bed is too damn comfy and I really don't sleep good. Would be better if I had a home gym

I used to workout early am - it's too much for me now. It takes me way too long to loosen up after waking up to have a good workout and I have a home gym. Done it a few times when it was all my schedule allowed and it is just rough and grinding workouts that take forever.

Now the last time I did it, I was using a commercial gym near my office at the time and that took 20-30 minutes to get to - so I would have a cup of coffee and flip through the internet for a few minutes, and more coffee in the car - by the time I got to the gym I was usually ok to go (that was also 8-10 years ago).

if I stuck with my mobility work every day I am sure I could probably get used to it - but the thought isn't appealing. And I used to deliver newspapers for an hour before having morning rowing practice in high school

I'll probably have something very light on the stomach, maybe 200-300 calories plus a small cup of orange juice.

Probably some coffee or pre-workout b4 I head to the gym.

Seems like mornings work out (no pun intended) for a lot of you guys, from a performance standpoint and a scheduling one as well

Morning workouts are much better. Your appetite is healthier and you sleep earlier too.

However, you will end up a boring old ****.

LOL

Morning workouts have been much better for me. I used to train at 5PM, but I've been training at 430-5AM now for about 5 years. The only negative of morning training is that it takes a bit for your body to feel awake and ready to go. A quick walk on the treadmill is always a good idea (something I need to start doing again)

More energy in the morning, and the satisfaction knowing it's done for the day and the whole evening is yours to enjoy. Also - it's nice starting your day with something enjoyable, instead of work, lol.

EDIT: ^^ can confirm, am a boring old Fuk, lol. I'm passing out by 9pm.

Been lifting in the mornings for around 6 years now. There was an adjustment phase for sure but now I'm used to it. Only issue is deadlifts require several more warmup sets for me but don't think that's an issue for all.

Non-trolling answer. I hate morning workouts, it doesn’t feel like my body is warmed up enough to do them. Best of luck op.

At the gym by 530am and then light cardio at night crew. It's not as crowded, have a ton of energy because the day and work haven't tired me out yet, solid way to start the day. I actually have gotten to the point where I feel like chit if I don't get a workout in before work. I hit the gym 5 mornings per week but the other two I will go bike or swim just to get myself moving. Have tried lifting at 8pm and it's just phucking terrible for me.

I usually go to sleep around 12 am on weekdays and like 3 am on weekends so it might take some adjusting for me. Will likely head to sleep at 10 pm and wake up at 5:15 am. I do perfectly fine on 7 hours of sleep but since it is a drastically different schedule I may need more so who knows.

I tend to feel "awake" pretty quickly and within 20 minutes of waking up so that isn't much of an issue. My main issue is telling my brain to get the f out of bed b/c I am feeling very comfortable and want to stay in bed longer.

Yeah another thing too is I've gone to the gym 4x a week. But I plan to go 5x a week because I feel like it would fuk me up if I had a random day during the weekday where I didn't have to wake up earlier lol. I plan to spread my workouts over 5 days rather than 4 so I can wake up slightly later, say 5:15 instead of 5 with my workouts maybe lasting an hour.

Then just have weekends off to chill.

Just switched back this week to being in the gym at 5.

If I lift in the evenings sometimes I feel too tired and cant take a preworkout unless I want to be bouncing off the walls at midnight.

I work 7-7, so sometimes last thing I want to do is lift after work, so mornings ensures I stick to a schedule.

First thing of the day for me. After a good chit.

Starts the day of right: productive, enjoyable, and natural endorphins released. Always more excited to get after it.

Adjust your sleep schedule if needed. If it means you to bed earlier than so be it. 9/10pm for 5am wake up.

You will have a good pump before work.

Less gym *******s in the morning. More serious people that keep to themselves.

Morning workouts are 100% better for quality of life and happiness throughout the day. Sometimes I'm not feeling up to working out in the mornings, but usually I can make it work with headphones and preworkout.

Obviously if you want to look at sexy chicas, night is by far the best. There are no attractive girls at the gym in the morning.

Big difference in waking up at 7 or 9AM and waking up at 4 or 5am. Mentally you may feel away in 20 minutes, but your body is a different story. It just takes some getting used to, thats all. It's routine for me now.

Yeah 100%, and a person may never get used to it. My morning workouts take place at either 8AM or 9:30AM nowadays, and neither time has ever been an issue.

However, my last real "job", I used to have to be into the office at 8AM and would occasionally workout at the gym a block away before. Would get there at 6-6:30am, and it was super rare that I'd ever be able to get better than a mediocre workout in. Always just felt lethargic and could never get many reps in.

You have to be very consistent with it so your body gets adjusted to the new internal clock. If you sporadically try to workout that early, you will struggle. Your body doesn't adjust to the new schedule. It took me about 3-4 weeks of 5-6 days a week to get used to it.

went for a morning workout yesterday, woke up at 5 am to get to the gym at 6. Had a very small breakfast and a pre-workout. Honestly strength and performance wise I didn't really notice any dip but i'm only going off one day. Perhaps what was slightly noticeable is that after a few exercises, my stamina started to drop off a bit faster.

Felt good overall though

Perhaps what was slightly noticeable is that after a few exercises, my stamina started to drop off a bit faster.

Felt good overall though
Keep at it brah. It's really a great way to start the day. I typically go empty stomach just because I'm already up at 4AM to get to the gym at 445.....that's early enough for me to wake up. Don't know if you use any, but intraworkout carbs/electrolytes/sodium make a big difference. I use Dextrose + Nunn hydration tabs.
