How do your packages get out? You either use USPS which is horrible (5-10 business day delays), or you use Fedex, UPS, or DHL. There are usually some local smaller ones but in the end they raise prices and aren't as quality. We use Fedex. Starting Black Friday Through cyber monday, EVERY package costs $2 more to deal with "influx." They have never done this before. We had lawyers comb through this thinking they were just trying to fuk us over and syphon money from us, but they are actually doing this to all businesses. We have a contract with them and they are doing this. After that short period, they will have an increase of $1 per package through January 10th. Sending out thousands and thousands of packages a day, that adds up. Mix in how expensive it is in general for shipping, all the different formulas for box sizes, length limits, weight limit went from 75lbs to 50lbs so now other packages have to go as "1 of multiple packages" which is much more expensive. A lot of areas you are basically losing money on shipping.

People don't realize how expensive it is to run these types of businesses. The reason Amazon can dominate the market is because of capital. The idea of "Oh hur dur just support small business and fight against Amazon!" It's bigger than that. This is a major supply chain with many moving pieces. Box prices, gaylord prices, pallets, envelopes, bubble machines and bubble, popcorn bubble, etc etc etc. Corporations are fukking small businesses over.

I never stated in my comment that local/small business would be able to compete with corporate prices, they have infrastructure and the ability to sell their products at a minimal price as they can sell large quantities. However if you don’t want large corporations to have your money then spend more and support local business owners. Like stated in an above comment, this most likely won’t happen as people are both lazy and cheap. Amazon became the titan that it is for a reason.

I actually didn’t know about the shipping being that much more pricey depending on time of year, but it does make sense as people ship more during the holiday season. It does suck for those businesses as it drives price and makes it harder to make it, but what can you really do when everyone stopped caring about service and focused more on cheaper “stuff”.
