lol@boomers who say 'democracy ain't perfect, but it's the best we got'
ITT I come up with a better and more stable system in 5 minutes:
0. The country has a covenant, a pact that is physically signed at 21 by the person and the state, and if they choose not to they are expelled, like bought a one way a ticket to Chad, same if they are a communist or want to disassemble the country or its values in any other way, including attempting to change the covenant
1. To hold public office you need to be at least 35, have children/grandchildren and be a person of note in your community, and in a Christian country go to church every Sunday etc(records will show) and ALSO BENCH AT LEAST 300LBS (if challenged, you have 1 week to bench 300LBS live on TV)
2. Out of these people, every 2 years, one is elected via random chance, paid a really good salary and afterwards they or their children can never hold office again
3. Any decisions they made are assessed at 5, 10 and 20/40 years - if anything went wrong they hold personal responsibility and are expelled with their whole family (see 0)
4. The ex-official's children receive a good (not amazing) stipend for life if they pass the 5 year check
5. Really important decisions (war, peace, tax hikes) are put to the popular vote (to vote you need to be at least 25 and bench at least 225, benching 300 gives you 2 ballots)
6. Taxes are collected via a flat rate VAT. Any financial proposal has to be put though point 5, along with an estimation of the tax hike. If the estimation is wrong, see 3
Do this and you got a country that will last 1000 years lmao
fyi, I was on the way but thanks to the wu-flu I back to square 1 and I cannot bench 225lb

I doubt you heard a Boomer say that.
Boomers tend to understand that we don’t live in a democracy. Our founding fathers knew that a pure democracy was not ideal.
We live in a republic because democracy is not ideal.

@DrewDarden, I'm getting a forum error when I try to quote see my reply:
And yet anyone can vote now (like in a democracy) and the US is living in two parralel universes without a sign of converging, both candidates saying they wont accept the outcome of the election

Democracyis just a word repeated by politicians to give the illusion that the voters hold the power so they can say "We must _______ to protect our democracy!!!!" But the average american is borderline retarded thanks to the department of education and social media so its both a good and bad thing that we dont live in a true democracy.
Actual democracy only exists on the city and state level. Not federal and executive. The biggest problem is that the GOP and DNC have monopolized the right and left and have the money/power to silence anyone and any party who doesnt conform

1. No carreer politicians due to 2 year term based on random chance - then accountability not gibs now and let the other guy in 20 years deal with it, rewards for those who did well
2. An actual physical barrier to making decisions - achievable even with low test but not easy
3. A choice on whether to participate or not, no automatic you're 18 vote now

would only work if there was an obsolete shadowy group of ex military members, and only 3 remain. and under dire circumstances they come together in the name of truth and justice against all odds to right the wrongs of the countries leadership.

Rome was a republic turned empire and not related to democracy.
In a democracy a citizen class votes on all of the issues. Our federal government is republican

What are better criteria than being well known and respected and having a parental investment in the future?
Why no leaderships skills? If you are a respected person of note, you would deffo have more leaderships skills than the average politician
Noone is forced to become an official, people can choose to participate in the random ballots if they fit the criteria, they should have a carrot and a stick if they choose to potentially take on the responsibility

Society evovles to protect the weak.
Modern society has evolved into competing for the 'weak' title and the protections and privileges that comes with it.
In nature, wreckless, violent young males provide a balance to the system by changing hierarchies.
Now the old and weak have enslaved the young to protect them and their interests.
Backwards world.
