Usually when you are working in academia (unlike many engineers) you have advanced degrees etc.

Also the obligatory.......lol at IQ
3.7 gpa in all mathematics for engineering. Maths/physics was the easiest part of my engineering degree. You probably just went to a low tier university lol. Goofball.

da fuk is this red noise. No one cares.

If you have a question about mathematics......for the love of everything ask a mathematician (someone who knows the subject).

If you have a question about physics, ask a physicist (an actual scientist).

Heck on this board whenever probability/scientific questions etc come up, observe the answers from people claiming to be engineers vs posters with backgrounds in math/science, and note which seem to be more accurate (the latter).

Sure there are engineers who know their stuff. The above is just about trends. Note that engineers don’t tend to take math above the basics (typically up through calc 3, diff-eq, linear algebra....was done with this by what, freshman year undergrad?). Not much in the way of proof based mathematics. Sometimes books and courses have to get rid of the actually interesting theoretical components to cater to the engineers (“Differential equations for Engineering”). Contrast "Mathematical Statistics" with "Statistics for Engineering and the Sciences"...it's in the same vein as Business Calc (aka calc minus the interesting stuff).

Nah engineering is bent more on the practical and focused on the real world...it is a pretty common observation that they can be out of their element with mathematics- especially those who get a bachelors and move into some job (distanced from academia or doing much of any science or mathematics at all). I wouldn’t be surprised if many if not most of the engineers on this board, say in their 30s or 40s, remember little math and couldn’t do something like a double integral or basic ODE if put on the spot.

Lmao if you think programmers and engineers aren’t tradies.

Programming is so easy to do, you could literally have any moron copy and paste code from the internet.

And engineers just lmao. What’s the last thing you engineered that helped the world. BRB I engineered the flesh light.

Think of how dumb most people are, then imagine being a tradie and learning thatmore than 50% of people who are able to do your job are dumber than average, includingall the people who can't hold down a job at all.

Imagine the feels. Is it you? Even if you're not in the dumbest half of your trade, there's still decent odds that you're in the bottom half of humanity.

It also states that High School teachers are well above average intelligence so I'm not sure sure about this one. Also salesmen being above tradies is just flat out wrong. I'm an engineer who supervises tradies and I can tell you that the ability to actually understand stuff in tradies is miles ahead of sales people lmao.

Becoming a tenured professor nowadays doesn't require the highest IQ, it requires that you are both smart and dumb enough to internalize the current world view and recite it when necessary. Maybe 1 standard deviation above average. Any dumber and you'll forget something, any smarter and you'll realize that nothing makes sense and your conscience stops you. The only genius professors in modern universities are complete psychopaths who are capable of recognizing the lies but repeating them anyway, and are very dangerous. Luckily they are not that common, and most academics are of average to slightly above average intelligence.
