Misc solve this problem
For whatever reason, my friend is unable to drive. Every Saturday, I leave at the same time and pick him up at his house at 7:00pm on the dot, then drive us back to my house to watch the game.
One Saturday, he decides to leave his place at 6pm and walk along the route I take to get him. As I’m driving, I meet him at one point, pick him up, and we both get back to my house....20 minutes earlier than usual. Assume I always drive at the same constant speed (somehow). The driving is always along the same route.
How much time did my friend spend walking? Is this even possible to figure out?

Yes if he walks at a constant speed, if you know that speed, if you know the distance between his house and yours and if you know the exact distance from his house you pick him up...
Edit: sorry missed the 20 mins earlier than normal bit. If you divide that 20 minutes earlier than normal into 2 you have picked him up a 10 minute drive from his house (assuming you normally spend 0 minutes actually at his house picking him up and you don't even slow down to pick him up lol). work out the distance you drive in 10 minutes. If you know his walking speed you can work out the time it takes him to cover that distance

There's too many unknowns. Assuming you drive at the same speed that your friend walks then we'd know he walked for 10 minutes but the problem makes no mention of this.

I think unless you mention at what time you normally leave or the speed at which he walks then there is one too many unknowns to collapse this down to a solution. Your normal arrival time is irrelevant unless you have another moment in time in your journey to relate it to. All you can say is that he has been walking for the amount of time it takes him to walk the same distance it takes you 10 minutes to drive

He left at 6. You spend 20 fewer mins at a constant speed. You usually get to his house at 7. You arrived 20 min earlier than usual. This means u saved 10 min going and coming back. You found him at 6:50. He walked for 50 mins. (Assuming standing still or just being out there counts as walking.)
There's actually no way to tell if we mean walking. He could be a really fast walker, and then he could have sat down and waited for you for a while.

I overcomplicated this way too much(speed/distance are completely irrelevant) to start and googled a similar problem, feel so dumb knowing the answer now.
