Question: Bodyweight and strength

I have a question about how body weight helps your strength. So at the moment i weight 164lbs at 9% bodyfat and i am going to bulk for the winter. I have in fact been out of training for 6 months due to Covid-19 and got back in the gyms a week ago. I plan on bulking to 175-185 lbs at a reasonable body fat %, which will be around ~15%. My question is is when i bulk up to that weight i hear that when you put on more bodyweight, your strength in your lifts goes up a lot. I wanted to clarify this and hear what your opinions are because i really am curious and want to learn. Now obviously, my strength and size will increase quickly because of muscle memory and getting back to training after being out of training for 6 months and also because of my bodytype (i put on muscle and gain strength easily).

Please feel free to give your opinions on this topic, i truly want to learn more.

2 types of weight gain, muscle and then fat/water

Weight in muscle will obviously help with every lift

Fat/bloat will help in just about every pressing exercise, squats etc since it improves leverages and decreases range of motion

That’s it simplified

Ahhhhh ok, that makes sense. thanks, i have seen some guys "dirty bulk" and think they are huge when they're just fat. So obviously i'm gonna lean bulk to minimize that fat gain along with the muscle gain

Yeah they just see themselves getting bigger and assume it’s all muscle lol

If ur gaining a good amount of strength relative to the weight ur gaining youd def be on the right track

Squats and bench will increase from better leverage. It will have the least effect on deads.

Yeah i've actually heard of that, but with the extra fat decreasing the ROM then wouldnt that lead to less muscle development than more?

Depending on height you can and current real stats, you can hit 180+ and not lose much leanness.

I stopped lifting back in march and 6 months of no lifting put me from 190ish to 165. I suggest running a strength routine where you hit full body 3x a week for at least 3 months to get your strength base back and then fuk off into whatever chit routine you want.

Unless you become obese, a decrease in rom is negligible. You'd have an overall benefit in strength development from the increased loads your body can handle.

Yeah i'm right at 6' ( ithink like 5' 11.5'') and was at 180 lbs before the gyms closed, but through those 6 moths of no lifting i dropped to 164 and really lean but also have more strength right now at 164 than i had at 180, which means i gained muscle but lost fat. kinda confused me for a while but i can already see my physique improving and my strength increasing rapidly

Edit: also at 180lbs i was lean (i had visible abs and shoulder striations) so i feel as if i can get back up to 180lbs and still stay lean

I was about 180 lbs before they shut everything down in March, I gained 22 lbs in 5 months and was able to get back into the gym in August.

In 7 weeks I was able to shatter all of my old PRs and I doubt doing home workouts built me much muscle if any. Who knows maybe I'm wrong.

Squats went up the most, followed by Bench, Overhead Press. Deadlifts went up the least.

As mentioned, you have better leverages when you are fatter except for deadlifts. But also increased food intake just gives you an extra boost in energy and recovery.

Yeah i'm already 1 week in and my strength is skyrocketing, in fact my strength is a lot better now at 164 lbs than it was previously at 180 lbs, so i guess when i hit 180 lbs in a few months, it will be a world of difference than before

Weight increase will definitely make you stronger, fat gain even helps, look at powerlifters. Bigger waist, bigger squat (to some degree).
