UK Rent and Train Prices
Biggest Joke there ever was
It costs £350-£550 ($500-$750) to rent a SINGLE BED room in a shared house with a family
If you want a single room or apartment of your own , its going to cost £600-£1000 a month ($800-$1300 minimum)
----Train fares also here are just ridicolous..........a 30 mile journey from London to Brighton costs £30 ($45), a return tickets would cost (£50/$70).........that's like going from venice beach to east los angeles
-----------Wages have hardly gone up here in 10 years..........the amount you earn a month on minimum wage has stayed the same at about £1000-£1200 a month YET EVERYTHING else has gone up 30-50% in price
Freddos are now 25p............they used to be 5p

Train prices in the UK are nuts, Brighton to London which is about a 50-60 min journey if you buy at the station it's about £27/$35 for a single, if you're savvy and book online at least a week in advance for a specific time you can get a deal and maybe pay £20/$26 for a single off peak ticket.
The crazy thing is prices are getting higher and higher by a significant amount. Last year before the pandemic I think I was paying £17/$22 if I booked in advance, year before that £15/$19 and the service we're getting is terrible, trains on my line are often late and overcrowded. The trains are also small, cramped and don't have air conditioning so good luck if your trapped on a train with standing room only with a bunch of sweaty people for an hour.
Compare that to Hong Kong where from the furthest northern border town to the centre of kowloon which is about a 40 min journey on the train your not even paying £1/$1.3 and you'll get a bigger, cleaner, air conditioned train and where the trains are on time and it doesn't matter if the train is late because there is literally one every 5 mins to your destination. It's a fricken joke that UK citizens are paying so much for a terrible service.

where i live in the west midlands a room in a shared house is £400/month utilties etc included
a 1 br flat £500 minimum, no utilities included
brb i buy a £90k flat on a 35 year mortgage with a 20% deposit and my payments are below £300/month
basically UK is god awful for renting anywhere, but if you're lucky enough to save up a deposit and not live in london you might just make it
if i had a job up north id move there in a heart beat, houses are so much cheaper there. talking half the price. and it's colder which i like

Also there's a reason why people tend to move south, it's not just the warmer weather, less rain, less snow, better job opportunities and pay in general if you go to London at least. Yes the cost of living is higher but if you can earn enough then it really isn't an issue.

Food is 100x cheaper.
However, the monthly tube is insanity to charge (192gbp if I remember), and the national rail can be bad too. They do have the best public transit quality imo. Like Japans but less people.

My rent dropped from £2250 to £2000 thanks to carona and everyone leaving London, pretty sweet if you ask me. You guys do realise the whole economy here is built around propping up house prices right? Jump on the bandwagon or lose out.
