Will VR Take Digital Addiction to the Next Level?

Over the last few months I went to a VR "experience" place to try out the games and stuff

I enjoyed it so much that I went back like 6 times with my gf and a few friends, and started almost feeling a "craving" to play again unlike I've felt with other kinds of video games, must have got some serious dopamine spikes from it tbh.

Next thing I know I'm ordering the new quest and browsing games.

As an interface it feels like it has the potential to be super addictive, because of the element of presence, full immersion, and emotions that normal digital experiences can't deliver on the same level. As the tech develops I can see it going to the next level and giving a form of escapism impossible previously without a lot of drugs.

Anybody else experienced this?

Is the future full of VR zombies?

Yes

Only Alpha males will be reproducing with actual females, everyone else won't try that hard to meet wimmenz and instead smash on VR.

I think traditional gaming itself is becoming too addictive, even without VR. I have found myself playing games for hours ignoring basic needs, even while not enjoying them, because the progression system had activated something in my brain.

VR on top of that? Scary to think.

True man

Normal gaming is insanely addictive. I think VR puts that on steroids.

Yes i think definitely AR will play a big role to. I'm not sure whether you have now seen those attachments you can put on your wrists that project certain things out and you can then scroll, abit like in the iron man films. VR will definitely with time be the way that gaming goes for sure and i think it will opening up new doors for gaming centres where you can pay for so long a put on a headset and other equipment and play shooter games and i did see a sports one the other day. These do exist at the moment but more like fun 'lab' type things instead of commercial. Not sure if anyone else has seen them?

Nah. I love VR, but I don't see its pull being any stronger than something like WOW or Overwatch, which is basically crack for some people.

If it ever gets to the point where its Matrix esque realistic- productivity will go down the toilet for many in society. A lot of what drives the economy is the desire to have sex. If sexbots /vr become undistinguishable from real sex, its the path of lesser resistance, which humans will usually take.

Some AR stuff is going to be so ****ing useful.

Imagine looking under the hood of a car with AR glasses on and it's telling you exactly what bolts to turn things to unplug etc to perform a repair.

Yes I think AR has the potential to be just as disruptive as VR - but far more practical in its application. I don't see it changing people's minds and society on the same level as VR in 2040

I dunno bro, it feels qualitatively different. Like the potential to cause much more intense emotions in there and the element of "presence" - it just seems like a whole new "thing" and much more powerful imo

Definitely, the practical applications are insane

I interviewed for a company a few months ago that develop apps for Microsoft's Hololens, thing is amazing

From what I have seen only the biggest losers are fans of VR. It totally makes sense when you think about it, it's the perfect thing for the reddit miserable existence ign gamer types. The whole concept revolves around putting on some isolation helmet with a screen in front of your face and putting on some headphones as you completely block out the world and get completely absorbed in some virtual media that probably centers around some anime waifu chit.

Honestly a lot of that has to do with online gamer culture, chit is like crack for addicts at this point. All the latest games are designed around hooking and milking obsessive idiots who think their COD K/D ratio is going to get them laid or that their Fortnite streaming is going to become a career. Competitive gaming has reached peak when it comes to taking advantage of losers.
