HAPPY HALLOWEEN boyos! - check out my Halloween painting

Some of you may have seen my previous painting threads. I thought I would really challenge and push myself this time around. I'm not a good drawer and I have been avoiding painting animals, people, things like that. However, I really tried with this one. See if you can pick out a few of the cats I've hidden around.

I almost didn't add that tree and especially the jack o lantern. I had to stand there and convince myself to just go for it. I'm glad I did.

Once again, and I may sound like a broken record, but if you want to paint, let this be evidence that you absolutely CAN do it. I only started oil painting 1.5 years ago. I am around 75 paintings in. I had no previous art skills whatsoever. It was definitely a challenge, but it's so rewarding. In fact, let this show all of us that, if you are willing to dedicate yourself to learning a new skill, you can absolutely do it, no matter what age you're at. Our brains are very plastic and flexible.

Good point. I'll keep that in mind. I've always had a bit of difficulty with trees. However, for this specific painting, I wanted to create some unnatural, creepy, scraggly trees.

Ah ok makes sense. The only other thing I noticed was how short the branches are like T rex arms.

Nah, I've never sold one. I was using watered down black gesso with a crappy liner brush for the background trees so it was actually quite difficult to get into making smaller branches all over the place. It was also just a background underpainting so I didn't put a whole lot of time into the details. I thought my fog would cover most of it.

Now I know what to work on. I've always struggled with trees and, while I think I've gotten a bit better at them over time, I should probably dedicate an entire painting to just practicing looking at a tree outside and trying to re-create, so I do appreciate all the observations in this thread. It's only through feedback like this that we can go back and improve.

For your next challenge, can you do one of the Old West landscape? I always found it aesthetic as fuk.

heheheh. This is good, though. I'll definitely keep that in mind. If I'm going for more of a realistic painting, I'll now always consider whether my trees are looking too t-rex like.

I didn't paint every episode as there's well over 300 - I just picked my favorites or those that seemed like a good challenge.
