Got a debt collector letter in the mail. Idk how to deal with this. Any advice?
I was in the hospital for something 1+ years ago. I have letters in a drawer from both the VA and my insurance company saying the hospital was paid in full. I have a feeling they were actually paid twice for the same thing by both my insurance and the VA. Now today I checked my mail and I got a debt letter and looked up the name they claim the debt is from and its a Dr from the hospital I was at. I called the hospital just now and the lady hung up on me. Then I called back and she claimed she didn't know what I was talking about then changed her mind and made up a lie oh I was dealing with an emergency call and had to hang up. Call back tomorrow. What do I do?

I'd go to creditinfocenter or creditboards and register there and ask.
Also take a screen shot of the letter and redact all the account numbers and your info for them to see.
It sounds like the Dr.s office is charging you on top of what the insurance paid, which they will sometimes do. It;s a total scam, but they do it because they get away with it so often.

all i remember is they'll keep calling like a motherfuker
idk about the "mail" though.
i eventually talked to one and we set up a payment plan for a debt way back when
i paid em all off
the small time debt collector was much easier to deal with. when i had to arrange with bank of america they were a pain in the azz. so many nuisances

Classic doctor/hospital moves. Call your insurance, call a VA rep, get them on a conference call with the debt collector. Leave the hospital out of it, the debt has moved ownership and they should have nothing to do with anything going forward. If you aren't bull****ting, you'll be cleared, the debt collector can report to the credit agencies to take it off of your history (also follow up with credit reporting agencies too).
I've got 4 kids. If you ever have a kid, you'll know you get bills fukkin 2 years later from chit you know was paid clear and full, multiple bills back to back for the same thing even if you paid it immediately etc. I don't know who runs administration at the hospital, but there is no way an organization can consistently double bill so often that you expect it to happen.
The fastest, cleanest way to get it taken care of is the above. Don't waste time calling each, telling them who said what. Conference call with all parties and get it over with.

Hospitals and clinics are notorious for being managed by legitimate retards and pulling this
i'll bet my left nut it was paid but the retard in charge of the system never cleared it so now you're getting letters. Should be an easy fix and if you have proof you paid it should be an easy fix. Hospitals sell their debt to debt collector's, call the hospital tell them you're getting letters you owe money, have them pull it up in their system and there's a 99.9% chance it shows it was paid off. It'll most likely take a minimum of 2 calls to find someone who gives a chit enough to actually contact the debt collector and clear it but thats how its done. And if its any constellation just know whatever retard made the mistake cost the hospital money because they'll have to pay the debt collector the money plus some for their efforts
^i went the opposite approach so i guess all that matters is calling someone and telling them to fix the chit

yea, im pretty sure the process is just.. the debt issuers normally try to get their debt
but then if it goes long enough and they tried with little response they sell it off to a debt collector at a fraction of the price so they at least get something out of it. then the debt collector comes after you
which is why they're such a nuisance
not that you shouldn't pay, but just why they're so adamant

Hire an attorney to see if it’s legit.
If it is, offer to pay 25%. Settle at 30%.
