I'm against lockdowns, but if we do we should have a 10 day draconic Wuhan style one

SRS

- Tell people 3-4 weeks in advance so they can stock their freezers and cupboards
- Single people can move back in with family/friends for this period if they have no symptoms
- Homeless people will be put into hotel rooms and given ample food supplies/entertainment
- The army/police patrol the streets to enforce nobody leaves their home under any circumstances, and to bring emergency supplies if needed
- A limited amount of doctors can attend to any emergencies but in full PPE
- Doctors, police and army who were active then quarantine for 10 days after

That would pretty much eradicate the virus without killing business

There is some validity to an all or nothing approach, not this half-assed goalpost moving bs which I think fuks with small business owners way more than an all or nothing.

That’s how the original lockdown should have been.

In the UK we have as bad a death/case rate as anywhere and we are just about to go into a 90% lockdown and nuke the economy while not achieving anything

This is absolutely right (in my opinion based on layman's knowledge and limited information)

Half assing it is pointless self harm and only serves to extend the period of misery indefinitely

Potential vaccines should be getting tested on the homeless and prisoners doing life sentences so big pharma doesn't have to worry about the risks involved with such trials.

That's not what the Chinese did to 'beat' the virus, they just locked up the infected. Then they realised it's not very dangerous and just stopped testing and got on with life, once they had propagandized Western governments and populations into freaking out and destroying their economies with lockdowns. Obviously still people think it was beyond the lockdowns.

'Eradicating the virus' is a ridiculous goal to have anyway.

sounds good in theory but I'm afraid you'd have to lock up most of the population in order for this to play out as you'd like lol

Absolutely - a short sharp shock to really cuck the virus rather than endlessly dicking around and letting it continue to fuk the country up

Vietnam, China etc had the sense and the political authority to do this and they are now back to normal having saved lives and demonstrated a lot of competence

The UK is truly fuked through indecisiveness and procrastination

Agree bro, as I said I'm against any type of lockdown but if we are going to do it half measures just give you the worst of both worlds

Im talking literally army/police roaming the streets, prison sentences for anyone caught outside without a reason, no walks or exercise nothing. Traffic cameras/CCTV will pick up any movements easily if there was nobody allowed out

the reason the uk lockdown won't work is because schools are gonna remain open

there was a surge in cases in early september. what changed? schools re-opened.

what kind of dumbass kunt thinks that by keeping those institutions operational, you're going to quell a pandemic - when the sole purpose of schooling is to promote congregations of CHILDREN inside small rooms (who don't even understand the correct way to wash their hands, let alone have any consideration of other basic hygiene measures).

what absolute retard thinks that's gonna work?

meanwhile the rest of us ONCE AGAIN have to make sacrifices for sh*t which isn't even our problem.
first it was the old folks - who cares

now it's still the old folks (who cares) but it's going to be FOR NOTHING because the children are gonna keep spreading it regardless.

can guarantee you if schools are voted to remain open, in 2 weeks, they're gonna be like fuk nothing is working - close the schools - and by that time it'll be too late and xmas will be cancelled

sincerely at this point hope there are violent riots. uk public deserves to unleash it's anger srs

We had 3-4 months lockdown with schools shut between March and June

Problem is there is still people meeting up for walks, supermarkets, "essential workers", routine hospital appointments, surgeries, and of course people breaking the rules and having underground parties etc

While there is all that going on the virus will never die completely, so all you are doing is kicking the can down the road and creating massive economic and social downsides

yes we did. and low and behold, cases and deaths fell

this sh*t show RESTARTED because schools opened in september. it began since then.

'locking down' while schools remain open, isn't a lockdown at all.

you're never gonna stop adults breaking the rules. it's human nature. but you can stop kids. we've already seen that they don't even wear masks. some refuse, others are simply too intellectually inept to be able to do so effectively.

not that i give a single sh*t about masks or covid, i don't. i just want this to get back to normal asap and that means being good little boys and doing what appeases the government. there's no other choice.

it's a joke

In the UK we have had only SIX deaths of under 14s, and kids under the age of about 10 are almost immune, their lung capacity is so much lower they dont spread the virus. The negative impact of taking kids out of school for months and months is simply not worth it, you can really harm these guys development

And it was going to rise again anyway, it was creeping up slowly but gradually through August. The exponential growth nature of it was always going to cause a big spike, schools (but more universities) just accelerated this

im not sure about them not spreading it. i agree they don't get ill from it but as i understand they definitely spread it to others

and certainly by the time they reach 16+ they're definitely capable of that, even if the younger ages don't

colleges and universities for sure are contributing a lot to the problem we are seeing now.

even if it was inevitable cases would rise slightly coming into the autumn/winter season, it most likely wouldn't have been enough for the government to freak out over their precious R number

my point is that you can't call what's being proposed a lockdown, when sh*t isn't actually locking down.

im agreeing with what you're saying in the OP. but i think it was absurd of the government to think cases WOULDN'T rise by allowing schools and colleges to re-open.

as for harming the development, we are all being affected by this. just look at depression, anxiety and suicide rates of the public as a whole.

Everyone is going to be exposed to this germ eventually. Let’s get it over with. Stop dragging it out and destroying jobs, businesses and America in the name of fear. If you’re scared stay home. If you’re not, go live your life.

Yeh I think we're on the same page, I just couldn't live with closing the schools for more than a couple weeks its too important. I know a Year 1 teacher and theres a LOT of ****ty parents out there that literally ignore their kids. with the ones aged 5-10 this can seriously set them back and essentially make them retards

We should have made the 2 weeks of half term the "hyper lockdown" and be done with it

That would be my first choice, but its a one or the other;

- Sweden had no lockdown and left it to individuals, they have lower case and death rates as they have built immunity, I think Trump has done a good job of this in the US too

- New Zealand shut the borders quickly and had a very strict lockdown/testing and eradicated it

Anything in between is just giving you the worst of both

This. Lockdowns are never going to "stop" or eradicate covid. It's just way too contagious for that to happen. Even if we did a hyper martial law style lockdown for a month and managed to have zero known cases, all it would take is 1 person getting it and going into public with it for it to spread again. That's impossible to prevent from happening unless you keep strict travel restrictions in place and lock the borders down tight indefinitely.

Never forget that when they originally started the lockdowns, they stated that the goal was to prepare hospitals and the healthcare system with the supplies/capacity increases in order to deal with covid surges. They told everyone that lockdowns couldn't "stop" covid, only slow it down to buy time for the healthcare system. The fact is that for the vast majority of people, the disease is low-risk. All of the emphasis should be placed on therapeutics and vaccines at this point. Telling people to cower in fear forever while destroying the economy isn't going to solve the issue whatsoever.

New Zealand shut their borders early, and then had a harsh lockdown and big testing regime and they eradicated it in their country.

Now they can't travel, importing and exporting is limited etc but they are holding rugby matches with 80,000 fans, and have no internal restrictions on business, socialising etc

If another country that was an Island reached the same position, they could unilaterally open up travel between each other

A full Wuhan style lockdown won't work because the virus is endemic in 99% of places. Except maybe New Zealand.

We need to live with the virus now.

In March I would have agreed.

It is impossible to eradicate a virus when community spreading already set in.

It doesn't matter how prevalent it is, the fact remains if every single human isolated for 2 weeks simultaneously it would die. Obviously thats not possible entirely, but we can get damn close for a short period

What I'm more arguing is, a 10-14 day hyper lock down achieves just as much if not more than 1-3 months of the current "lockdowns" but with much less social and economic consequences

The only reason we should be doing lockdowns is if the hospitals cannot cope with the number of sick patients. It should be a short and sharp lockdown (2 weeks max) then reopen again. Gives enough time for those will recover to return home or in the worst case scenario if they pass away, their bed will then be available for someone else. Lockdown for any other reason now is nonsense as you're just delaying the spread every time you open something up.

There are not enough personnel to enforce this. The army is only around 100K. You could do it in major cities but never the whole country.

If this was announced 95%+ of people would not think about breaking the rules, throw in a threat of serious prison sentences and that becomes less

We have CCTV/traffic cameras coving most roads, anybody seen driving will be tracked down. CCTV footage of inside apartment blocks will be analysed for anyone opening their door

Yes there will still be the odd person jumping a fence to see their neighbour, or sneaking over to a mates house inside a remote village but you can get damn close to keeping everyone in line.

Giving people a finite, short period to be responsible is a lot more motivating than saying its a month (or potentially more) of semi lockdown but still being allowed to go for a walk and bump into people etc

That would pretty much eradicate the virus without killing business
So, er who’s gonna look after the doctors, police and army for the ten days quarantine, and what if you need a doctor then yer dumbass?
