Wild Turkey 101 and Old Granddad are both solid. 101 is a staple.

Edit...both are over higher proof than Maker's Mark and one of my personal favorites is Four Roses Single Barrel, although it's going up in price.

Yessir that's still my #1 favorite of any price point.

It's harder and harder to find in Ohio now. I have 3 bottles on hand and haven't even seen any on the store shelves in a few months.

I finally got to try this! Really good whiskey and this stuff is dangerously smooth!

Just has a hell of a week drinking bourbon. Pappy 15, midwinter’s night dram, michters (not sure what it was).

Had a pour of knob creek after all of that and I about spit it out.

Spoiled weekend by some friends!

i got two bottles of midwinter night for the house (his 'n hers, lady loves it too). very special stuff. big fan of that brand in general, everything high west does is fabulous. was also able to snag a yippee-ki-yay as it is going out of production now.

figured i would share this here, the lady and i were gifted a whistle pig 18 year over the summer. having had it a few times, i mean maybe my taste just isn't at that level yet but i wouldn't say it's worth the $400 price.
if i'm spending big bucks i'd rather get something like booker's at $75-80 - actually, two or three versions of it - and still have money left over. i also just can't justify spending that kind of money on alcohol in general.

Since you're a fan of rye, look for Wild Turkey Rare Bread Rye. It's very good.

i'm a rare breed fan. what you get for the price is excellent. compared to the 120 proof knob creek 10 year - which usually costs 18-20 dollars more - i'll go rare breed every time. however i have not tried the rye version yet and would love to.

Wild Turkey in general just seems to be great whiskey especially for the price. I think I'm landing on WT 101 as my budget bourbon at around $40 for a 1.75L. Rare Breed and Russell's reserve are also solid picks. I haven't actually had their rye, so I may need to grab a bottle of that.

Checking back in on the crew. Been out so long i moved back down to SE VA. Had no idea Blantons became hard to find? Is it just bourbon is getting more popular and people are slowly working down the train from the more expensive stuff?

I've never seen it once, ever, in any store here in Central Ohio.

I think you need to be one of those losers who camps out in front of stores on delivery days 3 hours before a truck arrives or something.

Damn. I never really bought it because i thought it was good but there was a much better value purchase out there always. Saw it pretty regularly a year or so ago when i was consistently going to my local store.

Thoughts on Barrell Bourbon? It’s everywhere here, every batch. And they are all around $90.

I went to a whiskey festival last year and they were one of the first tables to stop at right inside the door. I really enjoyed everything I sampled, though I couldn't tell you which batches they are. That said, I can't personally bring myself to want to pay $90 for a bottle.

Noted. I didn’t want to buy it and think, not bad but then it’s not better than what bourbons I usually drink like Double Oaked or HW.

I’m looking for an insanely smooth whiskey, something my wife could enjoy as well. No burn.

I haven't had it but I do know I will not pay that kind of money for a bottle, just like speed said. Not saying I haven't before but I know I can get 2-3 bottles of just as good or better brands I like for the same price.

Nikka Coffey Malt and Coffey Grain are both solid Japanese whiskey's at an affordable price. Hibiki Harmony is my favorite. Disclaimer, I've never had Yamazaki.

Gorgeous picture. I do love me some WT RB.

I used to be a real big fan until I found the Knob Creek Single Barrel, it's about the same price here in Central Ohio (mid $40's) with a slightly higher proof but I just find the KC taste more my style. Love that stuff.
