I’ve applied for several graduate programs Misc (dear diary)
Starting somewhere in Spring.
I narrowed it down to three programs that offer what I’m looking for. Without being too specific, two of them are MA in History and another is a MA Education program.
If they all three accept my application, then I have a decision to make.
Currently I teach elementary students. I have a license to teach K-12, and I love it, but I just don’t see myself doing that in 10 years or 20 years for practical reasons. My current plan is to stay in school for the next five years, earn a doctorate in history, and continue my teaching career teaching history to community college students.
Just thought you should know Misc.
Cliffs
-OP applied to graduate school
-Want to teach post-secondary students one day
-inb4 no STEM no care

I went to Columbia State Community College back in the early 90's, and it was a much better school with much better teachers than MTSU ever was, which is where I went next. Smaller classes and more office hours for the teachers, too.

How long is the program, how many credits per semester, how much will you be spending in tuition in total?
How much will your yearly earning potential increase as a result of the extra degree?

Tuition ranges between the programs from about $11,500-18,000.
In the county I’m in now, the pay increase averages out to about an additional $5,000/year.

But I’m not limiting myself to that.
Also the doctorate would be a big pay increase if I decided to stay in (or come back to) the K-12 world.

Mirin hard OP. I love history, honestly in retrospect I wish I had studied that instead. I just phucking hate academia with a flaming passion so I didn't want to be a professional historian and/or work at a uni.
I am likewise mirin your decision to teach at a community college, I did a year and a half in CC before uni. Best years of my educational life ded srs, coolest professors, coolest classes, most engaging, most interesting, profs actual gave a phuck and didn't just hop in for their weekly lecture and leave without taking questions etc.
The list goes on forever.
What area of history are you planning on focusing on and all that good stuff?
STEMcel btw, lol @ us srs.

One of the history programs I applied for is in the South (very near me) and the other is in the Midwest. I’m hoping they won’t be 12/10 woke, but unless it’s a Christian school (I applied to state schools), it’s going to be fairly liberal I’m sure.

A PhD in history. Talk about pissing money away.
"One day I won't be able to lift any more. Not I won't want to lift. I mean physically unable. That day could be decades from now or it could be tomorrow. All I know is that's the day I'll wish I could lift more than ever. The day I'd give anything for one more workout, one more set, or one more cardio session. So go hard and enjoy every workout, every set, every rep. Because one day you will wake up and you will never get it back."

Good for you bro
Are you planning to stay at your current job while doing your MA and go to school while working?
That was my plan (although my goal is a Masters in Math to teach community college math), but then I lost my full time job so I’m looking at going to grad school full time now
Also in on community college has better teachers crew

She would shut down any critical questioning of the author's sources (or complete lack thereof-- lmfao at 1 page bibliography for a 750 page screed) or intentions.
Think Drewbrah is gonna be in for a rude awakening when his non-binary fac advisor determines the most effective way to repent for his privilege is to donate his diploma to an underprivileged trans child.

I just don’t tend to get worked up about differences of opinions and I can almost always find a middle ground. And if I can’t, I just move on with my life. I don’t require the confrontation srs.
But again, I am in the South were things are a little milder. Even the most Liberal person here pales in comparison to one of the blue hairs living in Oregon.

Didn't read thread, but is your current employer paying for it? Or you spending 100k to make 15k/yr? At your advanced age? 100k that should be going towards retirement and your kids college.
If I could do it all again, I would have never got my masters. Wasted time and money. My estimation is it costed me approximately 250k at this point. Don't even want to extrapolate it out to find out how much it puts me back by 55.

Good stuff OP. a MA in Education will be better than a MA in history if you're going to teach College level.
I have a few friends who did that and earned their PHD while teaching at the College they were at. The school even offered to pay off 4k a year on top for doing so.
Good luck my dude.

The only thing is, I already spent four years studying education. And history is more fun to me. So just for the sake of my own growth, I may go with the history program.
