Stormlight Archive book #4 just dropped, THE RHYTHM OF WAR

Ya boy Sanderson is back with another 1200 page doorstop of a novel.

I've got a few days left in the book I'm reading now, hope to start this this weekend.

Publisher's summary:
After forming a coalition of human resistance against the enemy invasion, Dalinar Kholin and his Knights Radiant have spent a year fighting a protracted, brutal war. Neither side has gained an advantage, and the threat of a betrayal by Dalinar’s crafty ally Taravangian looms over every strategic move.

Now, as new technological discoveries by Navani Kholin’s scholars begin to change the face of the war, the enemy prepares a bold and dangerous operation. The arms race that follows will challenge the very core of the Radiant ideals, and potentially reveal the secrets of the ancient tower that was once the heart of their strength.

At the same time that Kaladin Stormblessed must come to grips with his changing role within the Knights Radiant, his Windrunners face their own problem: As more and more deadly enemy Fused awaken to wage war, no more honorspren are willing to bond with humans to increase the number of Radiants. Adolin and Shallan must lead the coalition’s envoy to the honorspren stronghold of Lasting Integrity and either convince the spren to join the cause against the evil god Odium, or personally face the storm of failure.

I'm not a fantasy guy at all but I enjoyed Abercrombie and Rothfuss, and Sanderson's books scratched that itch/helped me cope with knowing Doors of Stone is NEVER coming out lol.

Currently reading oathbringer; hyped for this book. Really wish rothfuss would stop streaming minecraft on twitch and finish his series. Sanderson is low key a genius for doing side projects in different settings/universes to keep himself from getting burned out. Inb4 sanderson finishes the doors of stone in 2050

I will let you guys in on a little secret (though if you are already up to book 4 now then you will be SOL for a while), but -

Has all the Graphic Audio (full cast, great production) versions of that through book 3. 4 will end up there eventually. I'm gradually working my way through Stormlight, but I'm also listening to so many other things (and mostly only listen when doing cardio) - so its a slow process.

Have a 50min drive with my 6 year old to kindergarten. We started eye of the world at start of school year and 42% through it now.

Made me pick up wheel of time series again but already on book 9 so will be done soon. Will probably re read stormlight archive series before 4th book.

I really like fantasy, but I hate the trend of overly bloated book series. I read Sanderson's Warbreaker and liked it quite a lot. The guy is a competent writer and knows, what he is doing when writing, but I am really not shure if starting a Series of that size is worth it.

I think I read the first book a long time ago. It wasn't as good as the wheel of time and I never got the second.

That said, wheel of time has a show coming out next year, can't wait.

If this new book has good reviews I may consider dusting off the hardcover book I got an age ago

im starting to think that as well. I dont even particularly LOVE the kingkiller series either. I only read book 2 because i wanted to see kvothe call the wind and chit. I was disappointed at the lack of action and book 2 was just more of inflated world building for the sake of world building and going on and on about shims, drabs, jots, talents and marks. Its like...half the book and that chit got old quick.

Havent read WOT but ive read all but "Warheart" inSword of Truthseries, which people have said that Terry Goodkind has "stolen" from the WOT series. Maybe one day i'll try and read it but 14 books just seems ridiculous to me

WOT is a awesome series! I know the 14 books seems ridiculous but trust me just start and it will flyby. I think it took me around 5 months, don't remember now.

Can't wait to start Rhythm of War but I might have to go back and start from book 1 again to refresh my memory.

Not to belabor the point, but... meanwhile, Martin and Rothfuss would have been done years ago if they could average writing one single page per day.

I've read the two Mistborn triologies, Elantris, The Emperor's Soul and currently "working" on Warbreaker. I like them all, but The Stormlight Archives seems to be his best work.

I listened a lot driving to Thanksgiving so I'm 9 hours into the audio - that's the length of a normal novel. Brb 40+ hours to go, lmao.

Fuark, you're right. I need more Locke Lamora. If you haven't checked out the Six of Crows duology by Leigh Bardugo, it's actually damn good.

I've read The Reckoners series and the first Mistborn book. Reckoners is YA, and reads as such, but is actually really good with some serious quality twists. I liked the first Mistborn, but haven't delved into the second yet, reviews are mixed.

On chapter 21 of RoW.

Spoiler!
Not very impressed so far. The first battle between Kaladin and the fused who could teleport was hnnnng. I hoped Sanderson would back off of Shallan's multiple personality schtick, but he seems to have double downed instead. Maybe it will end up being a significant plot point, but right now it's just fukin annoying. Other than that there's been a bunch of boring fabrial stuff with Navani, boring "listener" stuff with Venli, and Kaladin moping even more than usual. Sanderson has my trust, so I'm sure it'll get better, but right now it's a slog.
