I edited my comment. Got all premature on the enter button. they also work to keep the majority of dust out of your lungs whens anding, but make covid 19 worse.

So tell me why they don't work at all when breathing in? after all, we have been told numerous times they dont work to protect the user. Why not?

And the article in the OP found that they do not help at all in terms of keeping an individual from contracting it. Shouldn't they have helped to SOME extent?

Why is it so black and white? Why do they prevent others from contracting it with incredible effectiveness, but (according to the study) do nothing at all, or actually increase your odds of catching it?

I would expect SOME prevention. After all, you wear masks for dust, and although some gets by it helps in a big way.

Physicians don’t wear surgical masks.

Ok. I don't think doctors shouldn't wear masks though, I think everyone should have the freedom to choose whether or not to wear a mask and not be criminalised for not doing so.

I guess I just always thought doctor wear masks to protect the patient from infection, and themselves when dealing with an infected person.

I guess its just the patients.

Back in Feb when I heard about this I researched the disease and masks.

N95 masks were developed after a lot of time and effort.

They are what works.

Virus are so small that they even infect bacteria and they can travel through most every material like it's not even there.

I have an N99 mask I got years ago for biking in Philly because it is so polluted.

If you don't have a proper mask, it's like wearing nothing on your face. If you are actually concerned about all of this, you would have researched it.

As I keep saying, the lack of research by the average person either shows idiocy or a lack of real urgency, because there is no real threat present.

to get infected all it takes is one virus cell I supposed, and regular masks aint gonna block out all of the virus

however, the question is do you spreadmoreof the virus if you're infected when not wearing a mask vs when wearing one?

and if a mask indeed does limit the amount of virus an infected person spreads, then the next question is, is it the amount that the spread gets stopped significant enough to actually decrease the rate of infecting other persons around

containing something like this is all about statistics and minimizing exposure/spread (it cannot be completely stopped, but maybe partially), lets say wearing a mask when infected actually reduces the amount of viruses being spread by 50%, is that enough to actually reduce the amount of people an infected person can infect around him (taking into account social distancing etc)

has that been proven to work tho? that's the question

How would you control the variable of almost everybody else in Denmark wearing mask? You can’t compare a mask group vs in a non mask group when everybody else they interact with is wearing a mask. 2/10 study

I'll just comment on the paper in question here. Did OP even read the abstract of the study? I'll copy and paste my comment from another thread here:

It's probably been rejected by several top journals because it essentially tells us nothing that we need to know. The study is significantly underpowered for a 50% effect size, as the conclusion of the paper itself notes:

In other words, all we can glean from the paper is that there was not a greater-than-50% reduction in infection for the wearers. We can't determine statistically if there was a less than 50% (but still significant) reduction in infection, or if there was even a small increase in infection rate (as the very wide 95% CI's could allow). The study also tells us nothing about community spread, because it wasn't measuring that.

The study's limitations lists:

"Inconclusive results"

First. It basically does not give us any usable information at all due to being statistically underpowered and so getting published in a top tier journal was never going to be likely.
OP, learn how to read actual studies and not right wing propoganda rags and their so-called interpretation of them. The literal abstract of the paper in question explains in clear words why the conclusion drawn by "The Federalist" is not at all what the study shows.

If you wear an incorrect mask and sick, think about what you're doing...

You are huffing and puffing, because it's hard to breathe in a crappy mask, and the hot moist air is jetting out of the holes and sides of the mask. So, you're like a virus steam engine. Meanwhile, if you had no mask while sick you would be breathing calmly and with cool air coming out.

So, by my logic, wearing a mask while sick turns you into an aerosol fountain of virus, lol.

In the future, the gymcels run the governments, society understands the need for physical fitness. Mr. Olympia is held quarterly, masks are banned because COVID-29 natural testosterone levels. Its a world full of ALPHA-males and only (prime) Angie Varona's walk the Earth. That's why coming back to 2020 is so weird, I do not fit in anymore. You ****ing losers.

I do all I can not to wear a mask. You're getting exposed anyway. Wear a mask from entering a restaurant to your table, but then sit and breathe in the same air as everyone else for 90 minutes. Makes complete sense.

I explained to my mother, you go to the store, you're exposed. You sign a credit card with a used pen, you're exposed. IT DOESN'T MATTER.

We are creating a culture of germophobes.

I have a libtard niece who is flying down from CT to FL for Thanksgiving. She is wearing two masks on the plane and 2 outfits, and will take the outer outfit off when she lands in the restroom (Absolutely NO germs in a public restroom) and bagging her clothes. Meanwhile her dork brother is a senior at Florida State and isolating himself.

Can you imagine being a senior at one of the greatest colleges for chicks in the country, you're in your last year and you're spending your days in your room?

Dan John was on a podcast and at the end lectured people to wear a mask because "it's the right thing to do." Fuk off.
