If you are interested/invested in the market and you feel TSLA is over priced (i can certainly see why you could believe so but you havent given any real evidence to show your basis) then what stock are you invested in and why?
This argument doesn't really fit. How far in the future are people looking for potential earnings? Teslas pe ratio is almost 1000. Are you just going to value a company based on potential earnings 100 years from now?

I think that is sound advice. I dont typically invest in individual stocks on company's i dont have insight into. Being that I am in tech, I typically stay close to that as we have conversations daily about things company XYZ are doing well before the stock "POPs".

In the past Ive done well with Vmware, Apple, ********, NVIDIA, AMD
In the past Ive lost money on Basuch and Lomb, oil stocks, bank stocks (all things outside of my expertise)

Currently I am invested in all digital companies and a few major energy companies. Companies that are harnessing the value of AI are the future IMO. Still early days in that space.

Buy on rumour, sell on news.

I said this before: The stock will tank once they start making money for real, if ever.

Thats the million dollar question right? If anyone knew that they would rule the world. My post was just addressing another poster's position using data about today's cars vs future cars.
Nowhere in this thread have i tried to justify the price/valuation of Tesla. I am however stating why there is so much hype behind it.

This fuking lmao. With all this talk about climate change, the green new deal, going green, phasing out fuel guzzlers how could Tesla not increase their stock. They have superior technology and probably other companies are using their battery technology. And there are cheaper Tesla models that go for 35-40K so the average working middle class family can afford it. They will get cheaper in the next few years as battery production becomes cheaper and more efficient and they recoup their R&D costs.

You can buy a Tesla in literally two minutes of visiting their website. lmao at visiting a dealership and having to deal with car salesmen. With Covid some of these dealerships are closed. And you can get it easily delivered to you.

This is a trend with other technological based companies similar to Tesla.

Granted some of their models look like complete dogchit but one will hope they will improve someday lmao.

I was this guy once. But Father Elon struck me blind on the road to Damascus, and now I have come to believe.

Now that they've turned a profit, some states/nations are mandating electric vehicles by 2040, and Detroit has been caught with their pants down and are 10 years behind in EV tech, I think Tesla has a very bright decade ahead of them. Doesn't make sense to buy them during a hyooge runup, but they can sustain a big valuation now.

Also, we're going on 12 years of a nonstop, US govt-manipulated market runup, brahs. If there was ever a time for the big money to sell high and hit the doors, it was during the Rona crash, but that chit hit a new ATH in 6 fuqqin months.

I am convinced at this point that the US govt will do everything in its power to maintain high stock valuations, and the market only crashes when they crash.

Sounds like the Dems are (correctly) going to do everything they can to keep the economy going, so I think you are correct.

If they change their stance though, they will have no choice but to print literal money, and that would cause currency devaluation which would raise interest rates. If you hear any whiff of redecision, get out of stocks ASAP and into bonds.

That's actually not totally true anymore. Many countries' currencies have tanked because they locked down and started printing real money, which combined with their GDP contraction has forced them to raise their prime rate. Countries like the UK have literally run out of money. Gah.

My bond fund has returned 8% for the year, which is quickly approaching junk bond territory returns. LOL.

Honestly thats what ive gleaned from the thread. Chit is dangerous.. people with vested interest vicariously living through others.

I feel a lot of it is hyperbole. I think the green energy sector is great has it been proven or disproven whether oil is abiotic or biotic? If it is biotic then reserves are finite and the alternative energy sector is good. If it is abiotic than it can be produced and is not finite, then i see no need to replace current energy. Though i may now see more clearly the focus on c02 emissions. Hard to fathom theres not much talk about oil origination; fairly certain it is just widely accepted it is a fossil fuel. There would still be room for growth, though in "alternatives"

All this talk of "ai" - ok lots of room for stuff in between but as far as i know they havent replicated consciousness. So, it would seem theres a cap here until they do. Not typically what people think about when they say "ai". However, again, lots in between

I guess what i am talking about: room for growth but capped

There is a ridiculous amount of oil. The amount of natural gas is truly startling - we have a few hundred years' worth at a minimum.

why does the media always act like its these "redditor" individual investors that are causing the changes in the market. Most of the transactions are institutional and the wealthy are using advisors to make their moves.

People going in and manually trading under 10k per trade in their accounts, that is such a small portion, that is not changing the direction of the entire market.

Also lol at financial news hedlines, they are so cringe, the market sways one way or another and the headline just matches up to whatever - "markets up on xyz" when nothing really happened. I mean what even happened in the last day? they already announced the vacine news last week.

They do cause changes, because individual investors have massive FOMO, and they just buy at market price. I learned decades ago to always set a limit on the buy price.

Saying stocks are a joke is a completely unhinged view. Stocks represent everything around us. Your house? Built by a company with stocks. The food you eat, car you drive, roads you drive on, probably the company you work for, same thing. Stocks are just a representation of our world. If stocks collapse it means all of those things are collapsing. If you think Western Society is collapsing invest in foreign stock, if you think the dollar will collapse invest in agriculture and mining stocks. If you think al stocks are going to collapse invest in guns and ammo.
