How to call in sick tomorrow, need a break, you leave a voice recording

- govt job
- got lots of sick hours left ..most employees probably call in way more
- been working crazy hours lately , and only getting a day off here and there

The way you call in sick is you call a # and leave a msg . I ussually keep it pretty basic and not get into detail

BTW WORK IS FROM HOME DUE TO COVID

Thinking about taking tmrw and Thursday off ...as I really need it .

Any tips ????

If you have legally entitled sick hours and you need to use them to look after you health, don't feel guilty at all. Employers should be factoring in ALL sick days and staffing to cover those sick days into their overall operations and expenses that it should not affect the business at all. A well run business, employees should be able to take 100% of their sick days, and remaining staff shouldn't really have to pick up any slack (in reality, reasonable OT in a salary package is fine).

Now in reality, most employers run their business with bare minimum staff and sick days really throw a spanner in the works... but screw them, that's their problem, not yours.

Why kind of job gives you sick hours, then gives a chit what your reason is?

You say "I'm sick, i'm taking this time off."

OR does it not work like that where you work? Cuz every job I've had with sick hours/days.. you just say you're taking them and get it confirmed. No one asks questions.

Why are you making a thread asking how to call in sick, when you've done it before and even answered your own question?

Heaps of businesses don't plan for ANY sick days, they have minimal staff working at full capacity, so when someone has a sick day their workload is spread across the rest of the employees. So you end up with this toxic culture where any sick days means you're passing extra work directly onto your colleagues/boss.

I've found in these situations either you have to bend over and take it... or if you do take your sick days and go against the "culture", you will be fired.

If you have it, use it.

There is no reason to overthink this.

Lol never in my life would I accept a job like this, and I would absolutely take my sick days at the risk of being fired if a company tried to pull that garbage.

I've worked jobs that don't do sick days. It is what it is, and you know that going into it.

But a job that gives sick days, but expects you not to use them? Lmao GTFO every sick day will be taken, every year.

In my 30's now, I agree, especially now after owning a business and understanding labour laws. In Australia you get 10 days sick leave a year, so you build that cost and loss of time in from the very start. I did spend the first 10-15 years of my working life though being taken advantage of by employers.

As a business, either you can afford the employee or you can't... and that includes them taking all entitlements. I take 100% of my sick days if I need them, that includes "mental health days" when a day at home would benefit my health.
