Amazon just let me keep a $200 product with a refund.
Asked a representative if it was possible to return a dehumidifier if i didn't like it since i've been having mold issues. He said yes you can return it within 30 days.
So i bought it and after trying it, i didn't like it because it couldn't lower the humidity below 47%. Apparently compressor dehumidifiers aren't anywhere near as effective as desiccant ones.
Tried to return it, got a message that the item can't be returned. Contacted support and they said it's too dangerous to return but here's your $200 back.
Das it brahs.
I for one welcome our new amazon overlords when they take over everything.

I believe it.
There is a scheme on amazon I heard of recently.
A 3rd party company tells you to buy product X.
You buy product X and as part of your agreement you leave a 5 star great review no matter how you truly feel.
Send proof that you purchased product X and said 3rd company party will refund you the money.

yea, i had similar recently BUT it was after 4 of 5 concurrent orders had a problem.
ordered a drill. was supposed to be here x day
2 days later still wasn't there
contact them. they say it's lost in transit
ask if i want a replacement or money back
i say i stilll want item. they order new item
say if other one shows up i can do whatever i want with it
item shows up
BUT as i said they had major fuk ups before, so kinda evens out imo
edit: also. i remember in the past they gave me an extra month of prime pretty much without ask but for most of these orders with problems they didn't give me anything. and i had to go through like multiple people to get 5 bucks

Ordered a $300+ spin bike on Amazon, 2 day shipping. A week later and it said shipped but didn't update so I contacted support. They told me it looked like it was lost in shipping (WTF?), so they sent another one and told me if the first showed up I can keep it too, for free. New one showed up 2 days later.
4 weeks later the first one shows up. Sitting in the garage still in the box, when the one I have now eventually breaks I have a backup.

I bought a crappy $100 stationary just hoping it would last a year. Still working 3 years later. TBH I do wish it would break so I could justify getting a better model.

Buy another one now and "return" that one. Keep buying until the combined power of dehumidifiers drops percentage to desired level.

Amazon has an extremely liberal return policy. I sell on their marketplace. Customers will occasionally buy my items, claim a defect and then get to keep the product with a full refund. You know who pays for the refund? Not Amazon. Me.
Now, the vast majority of Amazon sellers are Chinese companies that produce the cheapest garbage imaginable and undercut U.S. sellers. You most likely ripped one of them off, so it doesn’t really bother me. They’re also usually sitting on some serious capital, unlike their American counterparts struggling to compete.
Do with this information what you wish, just understand Amazon will be the downfall of small business, brick & mortar and the propagator of Chinese control over our economy.

I offered to return it and said i didn't mind paying the shipping costs on top of that. But since it's a hazardous item, they don't want it back. If the first representative told me it wasn't eligible for returns, then i wouldn't have purchase it from amazon to begin with.

Amazon usually let's you refund chit that would cost too much to ship. It's thier new policy, I just got a $10 car washer scrubber for free when I tried to return it.

They did that with me with a pair of AirPod pros. They were three days late in shipping and I got my money back and the headphones. I called and offered to return them and they were like nah bro, keep em.

People exploit this. If you frequent marketplace or cl, there'll be a middle aged woman always selling like new stuff for 60 percent retail price, she'll probably even link to it on Amazon. Scum

Its hard to find an example cause maybe you dont know about the items i get.
But lets say im buying a makita drill. Youre telling me theyre often fake/ duplicates of the real product?
Or are you talking products that can be bought off of alibaba and then they change logos? Like a car vacuum. Where there are tons of the same product and they just color them differently and switch the labels?

There is a scheme on amazon I heard of recently.
A 3rd party company tells you to buy product X.
You buy product X and as part of your agreement you leave a 5 star great review no matter how you truly feel.
Send proof that you purchased product X and said 3rd company party will refund you the money.

This one specifically involves computer parts, but if you use your imagination I am sure you will find more avenues.
Let's say you want to upgrade your graphics card on your computer or you don't even have one yet and you want to buy a new one.
Buy upgraded card... when it arrives start a refund. Take old card out, remove thermal paste... place old card in new box and keep the upgraded one. The dunces are amazon returns do not know the difference, they just make sure there's something in the box. I have known multiple people who have done this with every single part of their build. 1.5T market cap... they don't care.

Thanks for the tip op, im buying one right now
