Theft in my neighborhood (south Denver suburb) is rampant.

Cars are being broken into, looted, and/or stolen, mail packages stolen off porches, alleyway garages busted into...if not the house itself.

I get that Covid is making things worse.

Denver PD is overwhelmed or worse, not willing to go after "petty theft" right now.

What can I do?

I'm more afraid of what will happen if I see a criminal breaking in around my property...Idk that I would be able to restrain myself from going after them with lethal force.

Anyone else seeing this ****?

Get obvious security cameras installed around the exterior of your house, along with a sign that says, "Protected by XXXXX" and put it somewhere obvious.

This is the goal of BLM and other groups. That way they can just steal all they want without worrying about getting busted.

I have Ring cameras around my home set so that when I arm the system it alerts me of motion, records it, and I can live watch it. I live where all I've gotten was animals with fur and 4 legs and those are okay by me.

Can confirm. Douglas County crew. Last week, I woke up to police knocking on my door at 5am. Someone had broken into 7 cars on our street including one of my tenants.

So what did they go to your door for? Did they think you were a suspect? I thought police never investigated these issues because:
a: very hard to find/prove who did it
b: even if you do find whodunit, no punishment will come their way so why bother finding them

Nah the cop who responded is a good friend of mine. Someone broke into my tenants car on the street and my next door neighbor’s car.
