Is it possible to actually feel content and motivated in the corporate world? [srs]

I feel like this environment naturally cannot promote satisfaction.

Jokes aside, I can absolutely see how being a tradie can actually do one better mentally.

I legit think professional specialised vocations which kinda have an intrinsic value, such as a doctor, police etc can feel much better as long as extremes are not present (ultra low pay, horrible team/boss/env).

But just fuken lol if you are part of a big cog type of company, which is literally most people, doesn't matter if you are part of the:

- Finance/Accounting

- Technology

- Engineering

- Operations

- Marketing

Cannot imagine how someone can feel good about the work they do or that they are in control of their life and ambitions.

I don't even give a **** "You CEO 1000x your pay; just lol if you have a boss", doctors and tradies have bosses too but it is about the feels.

I am on the same path as LogoutBrah career-wise (or his presented one), but I not smug or stupid enough to cope by making threads bashing tradies. srs

I´d rather be a small farmer than work for some big corp.
Tradies doesn´t have to think as much, they can be more in the moment and less caught up in bullchit like marketing for example. Trying to find ways to be marketable and manipulative lmao. I couldn´t do that bullchit.

I have met many people who find the corporate wagecuck life fulfilling. They’re all lunatics.

But then I also used to know somebody who was genuinely passionate about working at McDonalds.

Pick one.

I've reached a level in my career where I'm content but I feel extremely unfulfilled and feel like I'm not progressing/striving to achieve the next level up and that bothers me.....but at the same time, I feel like I'm at a level where I can be ok with it and not have to stress myself to always want/try to achieve more. I know what the next level up is, I've experienced it and I don't want it. I just feel like I'm settling.

-Finance Degree
-9 years direct experience
-Currently work on the Finance side of large scale construction
-90k/year working from home (in a city where the avg household income is 44k)
-35 years old

...but is it enough?

You either climb the ladder or do your own thing. The latter cannot be dismissed as easily as you think since a lot of 'them feels' stem from actually doing what you want.

Yeah, it's pretty cool to see stuff we do make the news, although in the last year or so it's more fulfilling to see my clients stop making the news, LOL. I'm not deluding myself into thinking I'm changing the world but it's nice to see things work out and I do feel content with the work I'm doing.

I am not motivated by that, though.

agree.

but some jobs like healthcare ones tend to make you feel better because we are programmed to actually feel that way

doing what you want by being financially independent or running a company is probably just as good, but it doesnt work out for all

Can you give an example of that? I remember you being in consulting.

Just don't say something like:

"We recommended company X to lay off this number of people and then boom baby on the news - Company X laid of % of their workforce and they became more profitable".

"Wanker-Sucker Consultancy Group fixed diversity and inclusion efforts at Company X by introducing Gender Training".

Your career as with life is what you make of it...

I went through a "dark period" if you will completely regretting what I had spent so much time and effort to achieve. But really it was just my immediate work environment that was causing the discontent. So from that point forward I tried to focus less on the $$ and more of what changes I could make to remedy this regret... 15y down the road now making more money than I ever could have imagined & actually enjoying what I do...

lol OP just realizing the office drone meme is a thing for a reason. Dilbert debuted like 3 decades ago dude.

But trust me, being a cog is better than brainless wash rinse repeat tradie work. Actually have to think for problems here. Do agree 100% though that there is a difference between long hours in a field of passion (medicine, research, entrepreneurship) and long hours as a cog

That is literally all my job is. I can work 14 hours straight at the end of the month to close, accomplishing a lot and allocating about $85M worth of budgets and still feel dead inside....... I felt more fulfilled/happier when I was working nightshift at a wastewater treatment plant making $13/hr.

There are days that I feel like I'm a fraud/cheating the company because of how simple my work can be and how much they are paying me.

Not going to complain about my current set up though because I know the grass probably isn't greener.

Sure. I was on a project a few years ago where something like 80% of this organization's employees with a recent cancer diagnosis left, and exit interviews concluded there was no real workable option for them to continue, so we fixeda lotof weird, outdated bullchit they were doing and made it possible for people to actually work if they still wanted to. That's still a little dystopian (hey sorry about your cancer, but now you can work 32 hours a week, from home!) but at least for myself I had no interest in leaving my job when I was ill and keeping your healthcare is a nice thing.

FWIW, I have yet to see any MBB person buy into gender ideology, and I think this is because females are routinely not utilized in middle east work. It's hard to take gender training seriously when your sex is what's literally holding you back from work, and you're told this routinely.

Fair game but fixing some outdated bull**** of a big hog (which is probably the thing that makes it move slow) is also quite dull unless you know it helps some people in a semi-direct way (like in your example, which is probably the only reason why you remember it, even though it is from a few years ago)

MBB do a lot of diversity and inclusion training sessions. I saw it with my own eyes in my company. Their job is literally a social construct. srs

True about the tradie work but since you go and do a job at a house and not oiling up the wheels of the big corporate hog type of work, it can also feel a bit more accomplished sometimes.

Majority of people in those companies just pay those groups lip service and quietly move on. It is scary how much power they can wield though. Not uncommon for every person in leadership to at least be part of some group like that as they raise the ranks. And the ones in charge of D&I training are generally the least intelligent in the room

id say no for most people, but who cares? Its about getting a paycheck.

Only recently is work supposed to be fun or whatever. In the past it was mostly factory work and you just did your time to provide for yourself. its not meant for meanining or fun.

get paid and then use that to live how you want

Cannot imagine how someone can feel good about the work they do or that they are in control of their life and ambitions.
People don't know how to think out of the box, and are too scared to do anything they haven't read about before as being possible. If you have any ounce of hustler in you at all, the "big cog" companies are some of the best companies to be apart of. ESPECIALLY in 2020 with remote working being as prominant as it is.

8 years ago when i first got into the "big cog" work force, and was physically going into an office, I was on dat der OfficeSpace time realizing i only did 2 hours of actual real work. The other 6 just sitting in the cubicle rotting trying not to get caught miscing. They're so big though that all you have to do is show up on meeting calls, get marked as "present", send your 3 or 4 emails per day to be "visible" and you collect a check. It's the small startups that move fast pace and you're constantly getting "pinged" that are the real sweatshops.

You can literally stack 2 or even 3 jobs on top of eachother remotely, 2x'ing and 3x'ing your salary and STILL only working 6 to 8 hours a day. 1 year of working like that where you invest 100% of the income of the side-job and you can be up large to position yourself for financial freedom.

Only recently is work supposed to be fun or whatever. In the past it was mostly factory work and you just did your time to provide for yourself. its not meant for meanining or fun.

get paid and then use that to live how you want

work is about making money, first and foremost tbh. In a lot of ways, at least a little bit of suck is to be expected. Thatslifeson.jpg

1 year of working like that where you invest 100% of the income of the side-job and you can be up large to position yourself for financial freedom.
fuark inspirational srs. I just started toying with the idea of double and triple dipping at work. If you have the time, and can still do all those things efficiently, why not?

LOL @ millennials who whine about having to "wageslave" in a nice air-conditioned office 5 days per week.

Such a fukking hard life.

Absolute slavery.

I see what you mean but it is not guaranteed that remoteceling is going to be the norm for most - many companies are still going to be back on that office time. If not, they can also replace you with someone cheaper. They can catch up, everybody knows no one is like a PC processor working all the time cranking out tasks lol.

I definitely can finish all my tasks but not in 2 hours of actual work. Mind sharing what function of big cog you work in?

Also bull**** tax authorities if you work 2-3 fulltime jewbs?
