No matter what problems you decide to solve for society, like finding a cure for cancer or building some new technology to better the health care system, or whatever. It doesn´t solve the human egoic nature problem, which can be seen as the biggest problem of them all. Society and human nature will likely stay pretty similar as long as humans are bound by ego. But is the human ego really a problem? Well, there is no clear answer to that. It´s a definition question once again.

Human tendecies like greed, power plays, bad thoughts and emotions, trauma and so on, all stem from the ego. As long as there is ego, there will be greed, manipulation, fear and decay. An utopia cannot exist with ego, but that depends on how you define utopia. The better question is if an utopia can exist without the ego. Will modern advanced society with all it´s benefits be possible without the ego driven human?

If we all shed are egoic layers away, we would probably be much less driven to make money, achieve status and move society forward. People would be less inclined to work hard on something they don´t like, because the status and advantage they would get, wouldn´t mean as much to a selfless person. So, maybe the human ego isn´t really a problem, but at the same time it is. A problem is just an idea.

So, the conclusion is that there is no right answer on wether the human ego is a problem that needs to be solved or not. A ego less group of people would proabably bring a whole different set of problems into the equation, like starvation and poverty, but maybe those things wouldnt be seen as problems in such a society. However, any problem that gets solved today in modern society won´t change human behavior by much. As long as ego exist there cannot be an "utopia", no matter how good of a system that gets built. Capitalism, communism, whatever. None of it will change human nature and create an utopia.

The ego is simply the mechanism by which you both differentiate yourself from others around you and function in relation to your environment. I'm not entirely sure why you think humans having a sense of 'self' is a bad thing. Sure, with an ego there is greed and manipulation and all of those other things your framework considers 'bad', but without an ego there is nothing. No drive to create, no wonder, no marvelling at the fruits of the universe. None of the amazing elements that make up the human condition. Just a bleak and desolate hellscape void of life.

The meta problem brah, life itself.

The trick is to solve the set of all possible problems that can exist. Which is impossible, but a noble pursuit.

I think that the vast vast majority of humans will always be ego bound, unless someone invents a drug that miraciously "removes" your ego forever. But such a drug would probably not be taken by the majority of the population because of fear if the unknown, fear of no self and fear of a collapsing society.

Reality exists. Corrupting your soul with different mechanisms will hurt you, any time.
