“The Misc. is a stone-faced Uncle Sam with Popeye’s forearms and a cocked pistol in each hand. It’s a screeching bald eagle with a foreign Bad Thing in its talons. It’s everything that defines America’s bro culture, magnified and weaponized. But it’s deeper than that.“

The only thing missing on that list is a rope so you can hang yourself.

Yup exactly. Calisthenics builds a type of sticky muscle that just doesn’t leave you nor weigh you down. You feel like a tiger. Instead of a heavy elephant

So why did you continue with them? Yes its true some bundeh can only build muscle lifting external resistance. Those are not the covert ninja soldiers. They are front line martyr types. Bust anything that moves in front of them

If you have fatboi genetics it might be ok to just do body-weight exercises to get in shape. I don't and it really didn't work well for me.
When I first started 'working out' I really only did pushups, pull-ups and air squats every other day. Eventually was using a 40lb weight vest. I was doing something like 5-6 sets of 75 pushups, 4 sets of 10-12 pull-ups (Alternating grips) and 5 sets of 35 air squats every other day. I already was athletic, I was just a little more athletic and a little stronger. Eventually moved onto weights and put on a lot more size and strength.
I still think pushups and pullups are two of the best exercises you can do on a chest/back day. I don't care how advanced you are. Finish off your chest day with about 3 sets of slow and controlled pushups until failure. That sh!t will leave your entire upper pumped.

I'm inclined to agree to an extent. I did only calisthenics for months at the start of this and just recently started benching again and I'm pushing more weight than ever. In my experience you need a ton of volume for calisthenics though.

I use to do sets of 50 push ups and get to 800-1000 total. Then I started trying to at least do 100 of them perfect; full scapula protraction, lower back flat, all the way down till chest touches ground and all the way up again to full scapula protraction at a controlled pace (no where near fast). Doing 10 reps of those is WAY harder than doing my normal 50 reps. Now the only way I do em is prefect.

I could make do with push-ups, pulls ups, dips, chins, pistol squat, Bulgarian split squat, ab work and sprints.
I have poor delt genetics (average width) so that would suck not being able to isolate those heads. Arms would shrink, and most likely legs. But with low body fat, most people wouldn’t know the difference. They’d think you look “incredible” like Ryan Gosling in Crazy Stupid Love. His physique in that movie is what I described perfectly.
