New York is a strange place. I had to spend month there with work, about 8 years ago. I rented an apartment in Sunnyside, Queens above an Irish bar called McGuinness's. And I loved it there. From the first night I set foot in the bar, the locals came over and introduced themselves and were so welcoming. A real motley crew, but nice guys. It was kinda like a real life Cheers. The place had a real neighborhood feel about it.

But what struck me as being really bizarre was that none of the guys I got to know from the bar had ever set foot in "the city". I mean, the train station is right there outside the bar and it's like 8 mins or something to Grand Central Station, but none of them had ever been to Manhattan. They did all their living in Queens, and more or less in two or three neighborhoods in Queens.

Having said all that, I didn't particularly like Manhattan. I could live in Sunnyside long term, but not Manhattan.

You have to understand the Leftist mindset in order to grasp the indignation that is bubbling under the surface. This guy is White and and presumably wants to eradicate the white race, given his violent reaction. Do you think he enjoys self-flagellation? He probably caved to authority and/or indoctrination somewhere along the line to fit into the social order. He most likely believes that minorities are oppressed and other white people, but not him, are the oppressors. This is a common misconception where another race is embarrassed, or humiliated, by their status in the world and envies another race. That envy turns to hatred.

In his case the result is cognitive dissonance. No matter how he may shape his beliefs, he still holds onto the feeling that something is wrong, and hates that he is part of the oppressive race and/or class. He hates that he hates himself. He hates that he cannot stand up for himself without being an "oppressor." Confronting those feelings in him is not going to end well and he is likely to lash out from a lack of self-worth. Add in a little social distrust, lack of close bonds, and you have someone who feels out of sorts, out of order, and uneasy around other people who are not self-flagellating.

I have a post to share and it is one of the single greatest pieces I have ever come across. This forum and others like it that haven't completely caved to censorship tend to lean right-wing politically. But this is on another level of understanding. This is a masterpiece of a mental model.
