Any millenial-age miscers living without smart phone? Screen addicts GTFIH

https://www.thelightphone.com/

I'm pretty sure I'm going to be buying this.

I hate what smartphones have done to society, let alone myself with screen addiction.

I made it to 2015 before every owning a smartphone and my life was definitively better. So why did I get a smartphone, I was a hoooge poosay about traveling alone without a smartphone for maps, AirBnB, etc etc.

Now I'm convinced I need to go back and just figure out the rest of life without a smartphone.

Who's with me? Also need travel tips when not using smartphone lol

I'd still have my LG Env from high school if I could srs.
I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Miss Lewinsky. I never told anybody to lie, not a single time; never. These allegations are false. And I need to go back to work for the American people. Thank you.

Love the idea, and would even consider it but the lack of GPS kills any urge to buy it.

In.

Was looking at the palm phone the other day. I find even if I quit one app I just find some other way to piss away my time scrolling somewhere else. I want my thought stream back.

Keep regular smart phone for music, GPS, and whatever other apps you use?

Yeah I know, but it was the only other option I've come across so far. This looks much better.

The Light Phone II is adding maps next year apparently.

Travel inefficiency is the only thing that keeps me from pulling the trigger right this second.

This is what I'm going to experiment with...I have to figure out how that works. Do I just take the sim card out and switch it between phones when I need my smartphone for travel?

I just planned on keeping my smartphone and switching to a really cheap plan or pay as you go. Would cost about the same as their plan is only 30 bucks a month.

Same. GPS, Email, and Spotify/Tidal are reasons I canโ€™t switch.

I have however downgraded in size from an iPhone XS Max to an iPhone X and now an iPhone 12 Mini. With each switch, my screen time has significantly decreased. The smaller screen size dissuades me from looking up random chit/watching videos/etc.

Itโ€™s purely psychological, but has worked tremendously well for me.

Most newer vehicles come with GPS navigation now

Use a map, dude. It was only 10 years ago we started using phones to travel...

Absolutely agree with bold. I see self control as a finite resource and I don't want to use much of it daily on resisting my fukkin phone.

I'm not so concerned with getting there as I am with booking the accommodations.

Either way you're right.

I'm 100% against smart phones and how lazy it makes people. It also makes people extremely cautious, since they're expensive. I always memorize places I'm going and I draw my own maps on trips. Sometimes when I lose my way, I try to ask for directions and it takes 3 or 4 asks to get someone to use google maps for me. It's fkin ridiculous, I even tell them they can look it up for me and just show me, I don't even have to touch their phone, and they refuse. I usually find my way sooner or later anyway. My friend who loves the laziness afforded by tech upgraded his phone and gave me his iphone 6 a year and a half ago. I don't have it hooked up to cell service, but I use it to trade stocks on robinhood and one chatting app. Other than that, no games no nothing. I swear by my Samsung SGH-A667, the indestructible plastic, the slide action, and the REAL buttons.

I have a Galaxy S10 but I often keep it in max power save mode (basic apps + spotify only) and greyscale.
Apps are very useful and I'm not going to become a fukking 21st century luddite out of principal.
Strange hill to die on and a fuking weird ego trip (I've met dumphonecels irl who literally thought they were enlightened because they refused to get a smartphone Just LOL)

Greyscale helps significantly for managing screen addiction. Try it out.

I find the vivid colours to be a huge element in addiction and erasing them simulatenously makes the phone seem dull and the real world more vivid.

Current smartphonecels, try these steps before dropping 300 quid on a gimmick you may be able to recreate (somewhat)

Yes, but what about when you're already on the move....?

Say you're in Rome and the place you booked lost your reservation and can't accommodate you...how would you find another place with last-minute availability?

Well that's the point of going back to my pre-smartphone life.

I haven't traveled without a smartphone yet and when I went overseas I couldn't help but think how on earth I'd get around without the damn thing.
