I've never dipped into the whole ultra wide screen so I comment on it personally, but personally, regular size monitors + 4k have always served my needs well. Is an ultra screen really worth it? seems like not many games support it as much anymore. Plus the important questions being how is this for fapping lmao? or watching torrented movies/netflix ........ The only positives I see is for work (which is a huge benefit for me) and gaming (but it's not supported as much?)

Honestly I find more and more games actually ARE supporting ultra wide aspect ratios. I'll never go back to a traditional monitor. 3440X1440 35" master race. Will go wider when I have a bigger desk and they aren't so insanely expensive. Right now, anything beyond 35" and the price drastically increases.

Actually, out of everything I play, only a couple shooters don't support it. (Some devs feel the wider aspect ratio and field of view offers an unfair advantage.) Not a huge deal. Just have to play those couple games with black bars on each side. (Like when you watch an old movie on a new, wide screen TV.)

having owned both 4k monitors and UW, I'd never pick 4k lol

as for fapping:
- UW is fine, it's like having 2 24" monitors to put videos on
- unless you're paying premium, you're never watching 4k porn anyways

as for watching Netflix / etc:
- not sure, if I'm watching a show, I'm doing it on my 65" TV
- there are probably black bars on the side, but they don't bother me

Interdasting ..... Yeah as far as MP goes, I dont give a fuk because I'm all about single player gaming. I already have an oled for all my media / console and sometimes pc gaming needs, so that part is covered but it'd be nice to upgrade my 4k monitor eventually because its a few years old. I'll be keeping an eye on this ultrawide stuff in that case. 32 inch to 38" is perfect for a monitor tbh.

Yes, pretty sure he knows that more pixels = more GPU needed. I think he was asking if the physical size of the monitor had an effect. If he's already playing a 4k, it doesn't matter. Ultra wide 1440 still isn't as much pixels as 4k.

The pixel count effects performance, not the fact that it's ultrawide or not.

3840x2160 is more pixels than 5120x1440. Assuming you aren't CPU bottlenecked, you should get more FPS at 5120x1440 even though it's ultrawide.

I didn't like UW for gaming.
I am using a typical 2k 32" curved monitor which has enough height.
When using UW monitors I see them as being too low in height even though they have the same pixel count in height.

I'd want multiple task monitors for work but this is purely a gaming setup with YouTube and whatever on the side, but probably like 90% gaming

Trying to decide which new GPU I should buy - gonna be upgrading to a 1440P 144hz monitor, but I'm not a hardcore gamer so I think I can get an RTX 3070 and rely on DLSS to keep up the framerates in intensive games.
