I've never dipped into the whole ultra wide screen so I comment on it personally, but personally, regular size monitors + 4k have always served my needs well. Is an ultra screen really worth it? seems like not many games support it as much anymore. Plus the important questions being how is this for fapping lmao? or watching torrented movies/netflix ........ The only positives I see is for work (which is a huge benefit for me) and gaming (but it's not supported as much?)

Actually, out of everything I play, only a couple shooters don't support it. (Some devs feel the wider aspect ratio and field of view offers an unfair advantage.) Not a huge deal. Just have to play those couple games with black bars on each side. (Like when you watch an old movie on a new, wide screen TV.)

as for fapping:
- UW is fine, it's like having 2 24" monitors to put videos on
- unless you're paying premium, you're never watching 4k porn anyways
as for watching Netflix / etc:
- not sure, if I'm watching a show, I'm doing it on my 65" TV
- there are probably black bars on the side, but they don't bother me
Ultrawide is all about that extra FOV

and yes, almost all games support 21:9 (34", 35", 38" monitors). support is lacking for 32:9 (49" monitors) from what I read

UW master race
I know that for the longest time, Blizzard's Overwatch didn't support UW because they thought it was a competitive advantage.. not sure if they changed their stance
Apex, COD, Battlefield, H1Z1, Realm Royale, etc all work

Interdasting ..... Yeah as far as MP goes, I dont give a fuk because I'm all about single player gaming. I already have an oled for all my media / console and sometimes pc gaming needs, so that part is covered but it'd be nice to upgrade my 4k monitor eventually because its a few years old. I'll be keeping an eye on this ultrawide stuff in that case. 32 inch to 38" is perfect for a monitor tbh.
Does ultrawide affect performance? like say I have a 3080/3090 would playing in ultrawide use more resources due to the wider nature of the screen/bigger fov or it doesnt matter?

but correct, if you're already on 4K, then all current (widely accepted) UW will be less demanding
my new 5120x1440p ultrawide is still under 4k res

3840x2160 is more pixels than 5120x1440. Assuming you aren't CPU bottlenecked, you should get more FPS at 5120x1440 even though it's ultrawide.

Pixel count and physical size does matter, the sweet spot (by Apple's word) is called retina.
You can calculate it with a tool such as this:https://designcompaniesranked.com/re...s-this-retina/
I didn't like UW for gaming.
I am using a typical 2k 32" curved monitor which has enough height.
When using UW monitors I see them as being too low in height even though they have the same pixel count in height.

As somebody who hasn't been following the rtx 3000 series paper launch much, how difficult will it be for me to get a 3080 MSI Gaming X Trio by the end of the year? Looking at nowinstock, seems like MSI cards haven't been in stock in forever? Is MSI having way more supply issues than other companies?

49" monitor is the future man
before - 3x 27" and a 34":

after - 2x 27" and a 49":

no wire management yet
I NEED to vesa mount the 49", because my desk is too shallow and I can't line up all 3 monitors properly.
32:9 is amazing, and I'm averaging 120 FPS on max settings with the 3080
dropped my first 2k damage game in Apex with the new legend too

I'm very intrigued by the samsung g9. Looks like an amazing monitor
Im just not ready to let go of 163ppi for 108ppi
Maybe if LG made an OLED with that resolution i would be willing to sacrifice the ppi for better IQ and immersion
Maybe next gen if its something like 5,120 x 4,320 49" with the same curve and OLED. ~137ppi would be the ultimate monitor
22million pixels would be a lot less than 8k but still about 3x more than 4k
with dlss 3.0 seems very doable next gen

Maybe if LG made an OLED with that resolution i would be willing to sacrifice the ppi for better IQ and immersion
Maybe next gen if its something like 5,120 x 4,320 49" with the same curve and OLED. ~137ppi would be the ultimate monitor
22million pixels would be a lot less than 8k but still about 3x more than 4k
with dlss 3.0 seems very doable next gen
I use it at 3840 x 1080p for work everyday since my poverty work laptop can't run at full resolution, and that's 81 DPI and still looks great
the 1000r curve is the biggest deal I think. I feel like I would hate a non-curved 49, but with that steep curve, it's just super immersive

Trying to decide which new GPU I should buy - gonna be upgrading to a 1440P 144hz monitor, but I'm not a hardcore gamer so I think I can get an RTX 3070 and rely on DLSS to keep up the framerates in intensive games.
Still tempted to throw some more $$$ in order to afford to the RTX 3080/6800 XT for future proofing - don't think I'll be considering the 6800 at the current price range. What are you guys getting?

The price difference and performance between 3070, 3080, 6800XT really isn't huge

Just dropped like $500 on a new vesa arm, a kitchen countertop, some ikea chit
should be able to update and make my build look nice in like 2 weeks once everything arrives

^^ Is that a 4K TV lol?
The viewing distance seems a bit too close. IDK about you but I'd feel weird sitting that close to a big azz sceen, like my eyes would bleed watching and playing on it after a few hours lol.
I'd suggest looking into a 34 inch ultrawide monitor, keep the TV for XSX/PS5 perhaps. Gigabyte just released a 34 inch 3440x1440 144hz panel for$400!.... really tempting for the price!

OLED. 120 Hz VRR @ 4K.
Both Gsync and Freesync certified.
Agreed on the distance tho.

Just realized these are Nvidia's "BFG TV's" that were demoed back at CES 2018...
I remember them being priced at something like $5000 lol.
Amazing how quickly the price went down.....It's Beauriful
