Find a real boxing gym. Not a gym that teaches mma on monday, muy thai on tuesday, boxing on wednesday etc.
Start doing daily roadwork. Buy a speedrope. Join a gym. Practice, spar after a few months. Good luck.

Ask your coach SRS.

If he's a coach that is worth his salt and you come in doing things differently because you heard it on an internet forum he's going to throw in the towel for you.

Do you have ANY previous exp with boxing or martial arts? do you know the proper mechanics of throwing punches? If not, focus on getting the techniques down perfect so it gets coded into your muscle memory. That means repetitions of doing jab over and over, then jab cross, etc... don't try to run before you can walk, and don't try to walk before you can crawl. MAKE SURE you have someone that is competent that shows you the proper technique, proper stance, weight transfer on the punches so that you're not training yourself bad habits. Keep hands up, common noob mistake is dropping of the hands after throwing a punch.

There is no quick way to get good. It just takes practice and lots of it, repetition is key. Get the punches down, then you can work on a little movement. Don't rush into sparring until you have the basics down or you'll end up like Nate Robinson RIP

It's a real gym. Infact they're training for nationals these days which is why I probably won't get much 1 on 1 time this month

If your approach to boxing is the same as most people's approach to lifting then you won't get anywhere, if you want to get somewhere with it your life will pretty much have to revolve around it.

No experience. But that's my plan. I want the basics down so I can train with proper form whenever wherever even if there's no gym nearby (might have to move states soon). I know some of the theory, been reading and watching videos, but that's nothing like real world.

I know man and that's what held me back, I know being casual doesn't get you far, but I figured its better just to start any which way rather than waiting for the perfect opportunity where I can dedicate full time nomsayin.

I've never boxed, you probably want to bring up cardio to a sufficient level, practice/learn combinations, practice dodging and blocking, skip rope and do agility drills for footwork, practice sparring once you get the basics down, you probably should train 4 hours every day (this includes your strength training) but less is fine, more is better though.

Finding a good coach is the first step. Listen to what the coach say.

Practice, and if you can afford it, private lessons with a good coach will speed up the learning process.

Don't rush and enjoy the process.

Also, if you find that you don't like boxing, don't be afraid of quitting - it's not for everyone

Don't spar anytime soon at least 12 months no point.

Practice footwork/movement more then anything else first.
