I used to work in car audio. One time had this straight up dirt poor looking aboriginal family come in and say "we want to spend $14,000 on a car stereo". Made it happen. Hard to spend that money to be honest, all custom enclosures etc. Sounded insane, twin 10 inch pioneer subs with a 800 watt mosfet amp. shook the building

I plan to do this to my truck next year. Might just upgrade speakers. Not going with amplifier and chit.

Also I would assume that these days people dont really do it because 1) cars come with decent speakers now and 2) cars today are very expensive and many people are stuck paying payments

I have an IDQMAX 12"
IDQ65 component sets x2
1 4 channel amp
1-2 channel amp for sub

I prefer sound quality hence the 400 dollar per set components

It'll be installed in like a year or so lol

2-10's

Shook the building

Pick one.

That setup probably wouldn't even register on the meter at an SPL contest tbh

Feels good man, me too.

First car was an 88 civic with stock tape deck and only front speakers.

Step dad installed alpine 6x9s in the rear deck and components up front paired to a kenwood CD player. Chit was legit for me at that point, but ended up adding an Mtx 12 and an alpine amp in the trunk.

Man, car stereo was fukin legit back in the day

For sure man. My current Lexus is adequate with its nav/speaker set-up, but it just lacks something compared to those old school set-ups!

Slightly embarrassed, but yes I do have a 12in JL Audio W6 with a 1000 Watt amp and custom box. The stock system just wasn't hitting the lows and I already had the sub/amp.

I don't bump it like I did in HS though.

I remember my friend who lived in the hood around 2002 put a $10,000 system in his civic. The bass was so strong you could barely breathe sitting in the backseat and the tweeters were absolutely ear piercing but all the sound was crystal clear. Hood rat sloots would start dancing in the street when he rolled around with that. Until one day he went to his car in the morning and everything was ripped out and stolen lol. Was a crazy impressive system though.

last car was a 2005 so before infotainment, easy as fuk to swap out the radio for something better, redid all the spakers and a 10" sub.

Current car, they had a factory option amp and sub, so i got that aftermarket, put that in and also swapped out all the speakers with infinities.

I have the small sub in their right now but I have a 12" I can swap it out for also.

This was legit some of the best stuff you could buy back in early 2000's for loudest bass

Earthquake d2 amp. Put out around 2400 watts @ 1 ohm

And these shocker xtreme subs were some of the only ones that could handle the power.

It's funny now because I'll be next to someone who's car is rattling to pieces and I'm like wtf is wrong with this kid

i reckon a sub and amp is the best value upgrade. makes such a huge difference. i find the normal speakers are decent enough, they just miss that hard hitting bass that you can feel
