"Bodybuilders all started from low self esteem"

I see this said or implied all over the place, but I don't see why it's a problem. What else are they going to do to beneficially cope? At least with bodybuilding the results are much clearer than therapy or self-help sessions with someone trying to scam you. One can bodybuild natty or not without being scammed

A generalization made to suit a certain narrative (that of bb-ers being insecure and/or vain individuals).

Many people take up bodybuilding from an initial objective to get stronger (for a particular sport), discover that they have an affinity towards building muscle/lifting weights as an activity in itself, and keep getting more and more advanced.

It's cope from dyels that makes them feel morally superior to people who can dominate all of their holes on a whim.

They are trying to lowkey imply that they are sadkent dyel *******s because they have high self-esteem and not because they have lower test scores than an inner city math team.

I started working out because I was training for hockey

I had to go to off ice training starting at 13 - we did squats, sprinting, agility work, core strength, balance exercises, some minor upper body stuff etc

I just continued. I never worked out because I was insecure and I don’t even think I look that much better when I’m jacked.

It's not bodybuilders that are vain, it's modern society that is. Bodybuilding is a good way to respond to that

Incorrect. I started lifting due to stressful studies and having incredible genetics.

I don’t lift anymore because I’m older and am endurance focused.

But, yeah, ROFL at all the hard core manlets with their thousand yard stares in the gyms. Happy to never see these monkeys again.

Cheers

I was inspired at a very young age to be the way I am now. I grew up watching action movies with Arnold and Stallone, and seeing how jacked they were made me want to be like them.

Not for me. My life goals absolutely required that I develop more functional strength. Muscle development was simply a sweet by-product.

I started training because I was an anorexic level drug addict and was fed up of being weak. I missed the times when I was much more athletic and stronger in my youth.

Bodybuilding for me started from sports.

Coaches made us start lifting in high school and honestly was so happy they did in hindsight even if we were probably on the younger side to start lifting.

Lucky. I still feel regret for not starting in my teens srs. Would've gone so much further if I took advantage of teen test levels

Billionaires started from low self esteem about not being wealthy enough

Doctors started from low self esteem from not being successful enough

This loser mentality horse chit could apply to literally anything that involves improving ones self, maybe people feel more so about bodybuilding since it directly involved aesthetics and we can all relate to not feeling good looking enough for something.

Not true, a lot of people started out like me, due to injuries preventing me from training and practicing my pervious sport preferences for example, I had to start with lifting weights

I started to be more athletic and prevent injuries during said athletics. Skateboarding, wakeboarding, snowboarding, mountainbiking, etc.

I can remember coping like "I want to be lean and strong but not too big." I thought Ryan Reynolds in Blade Trinity had a good physique. Fast forward 14 years and my idea of a good physique and what I want has evolved tenfold.

I don't have to look stage ready but I accept the amount of mass I want to maintain long term is not achieveable naturally. I'd be happy at 10-12% body-fat levels for life with the right amount of mass.

As far as being insecure I might argue non-fit people are typically the most insecure.

Hardly, I built frankly comical size and strength very quickly which makes men cross the street and women scared to approach me. I wasn’t insecure before, now I’m a prisoner of my Herculean masculinity

Not true. I was big into baseball as a kid and was doing whatever I could do to be able to hit farther or throw faster. I also loved the way wwf wrestlers looked and was always buying muscle magazines and looking up workouts.

Most of us probably did start lifting due to low self esteem but agree there's absolutely nothing wrong that.

I started lifting because I hated how I used to look and was very insecure but I feel and look 100x better now.

Nothing pisses me off more than people who try to shame others for wanting to change/improve themselves, like do they want people to accept being skinny fat slobby kunts or what?

yea, i started from sports like these guys

i mean i think it can be vain but it's also healthy.. to an extent. prob losing a bit of that healthiness if youre squatting 800 lbs and hurting your joints

imma repeat op. you don't have to use online. wherever you go, there are prob women. you can go talk to them and get their # and never use online

online never has to enter the equation
