I agree with you but as far as median household income data for the U.S. when you get a "salary thread" and 9/10 people make over 120k a year it just doesnt coincide with known statistical data. If a sales manager on bls data said they make a median of $80k and someone here says they make $120k then its not out of the realm of possibilites Im more talking about overall just so many people when ask what they make will of course say they make 10, 20 30k or more higher than they do online but also irl.

Miscers posting in a salary thread isn’t a sample that represents the population. First off it’s too small of a sample size and there is massive bias.

A subtle observation I've noted when I've gone through the ranks is that once you start making >300k people stop talking about how much they make as it makes everyone uncomfortable.

It's the ones that make 150-175k are loud about it and usually inflate to 200k.

That's my world at least

But it goes back to what others have said. Do you think people making average salaries on a bodybuilding forum would even be posting in the thread?
The other week there was a thread about "how fast does it take you to run 5k" as an example. I saw the title, but I didnt come in to contribute as I dont really care to share my experiences about running 5ks and how long it takes me because iv only ever done it maybe twice in my life and I am not particularly fast.

Outside of the "trolling" threads, people tend to post where they have better experience on things and like to share their perspective because of it.
Of course there are going to always be people that E-stat but over time you can start to infer who is legit and who is not.
As example I believe RealLifeALpha or whatever the poster's exact name is, really does work in sales for a SaaS company and has years where he can and does make $300k. I know this because of the things he says, the little details and because I used to be in SaaS sales too.
