My partner is a citizen. I spent a year down there (my first foreign experience) and honestly I didn't notice much difference from the US. Even after living in Europe, NZ doesn't feel like a European country. Of course right hand drive cars, and kilometers, liters... blah blah. But.. nothing comes to mind as drastically different. lol property prices are fcking insane, so that's comparable.

I believe our plan is to stay there for a couple years till I get residency, then we'll come back to the US. I believe there is a higher quality of life here, or certainly at least more earning potential.

What part of NZ you moving to brah?

NZ is very different to america. No one carries guns for a start. State healthcare system, we have the accident compensation corporation so there are no lawsuits for personal injury etc etc

Bay of Plenty probably, but gf is looking at some other locations for schools with the education bill you guys are pushing. Maybe Nelson as well.

Nice man, great choices for lifestyle, beaches, weather etc.
You will get that kiwi vibe there for sure, where as if you moved somewhere like auckland, with 1.6 million + population it can feel like any other metropolitan city around the world.

I know a few people who did working holiday visas over there. They loved it. You should check that out if you're under 30.

I was accepted for an NZ WHV and I had until March this past year to go, but I didn't. Would have been weird with Covid honestly.

My gf and I will probably visit at some point though because it's a beautiful country.

they bumped the working holiday visa to age 35 years old. So I have more time. But kinda dont want to work some chit jobs while there

I'm from NZ. It's identical to USA tbh but watered down. You have dip**** liberals in cities, but they're not as bad as USA libs. You have republicans in the towns, but they're not as republican as the republicans. You have the minorities, but they're not as annoying and wanting gibs as the American ones. People talk it up because we have some whore for a politician and we successfully did a lockdown which tbh was easy because we're already an isolated country.

I'm from Australia, the one advantage here is that you can just drive anywhere, from the cold to the tropics.

Personally I want to go to South Island of New Zealnd cause I like the cold, and its god damn beautiful.

I live in Perth, and its 40 degrees often during the day in summer. I hate the heat.

Its also one of the wettest places in the world

Tbh if someone was going to move here, I'd recommend either Bay of Plenty or Nelson regions for the beaches and lifestyle, but Auckland is the easiest for finding a job quickly.

NZ is good if you are an outdoor type person. Winter sports/hiking (tramping)/just natural beauty is unmatched.

IMO hard to find good paying work like in the USA, and cost of living is still high relative to incomes. Esp in Auckland with lots of chinese buyers. But if you want a simple life its a nice place.

Also a pain in the ass to travel from there, keep that in mind.

If you clicked through the property listings, and tried to extrapolate the land values it can be deceptive. Houses in the inner city neighborhoods have largely been rezoned for intensification - so the land itself is often worth more without a house on it.

We have alot of ghost houses in the older suburbs which are listed as heritage and thus cant be demolished. So the owners will leave them empty until they become derelict and then they get permission to knock them down.

One house gone - 10 apartments/flats in its place and 350% profit.

Doesnt help the housing shortage in the short term though
