Realistically 9/10 people that live with zero personal income are dependents, meaning they don't qualify for state medicaid assistance because of their household's income of $15,000+

Europe accounts for 50% of the world’s tourist arrivals and 37% of global tourism receipts, it is the most visited region in the world.

(Source: condorferries.co.uk/tourism-in-europe-statistics[/url])

Only 40% of Americans have passports so Americans tend not to really travel anywhere hence why there numbers may be lower but in 2018, Americans travelled to Europe 18 million times

JFL at this topic. Thoughts the rest of the world give about America on a daily basis as they go about their lives = 0.

There's nothing quite as insecure as an insecure American.

Not sure about the no job part as I've always had a pretty good job since I graduated HS, but I did get to pay for the birth of my first kid in 2019 and have a high deductible health plan so I can answer that question from my experience. My maximum out of pocket is $3.5k/person, so the wife and I ended up with a bill of $3,500. I used an HSA, which is a completely tax free health savings account, to pay it and was able to extend the payment plan out for 1 year without incurring any interest or fees. Given the fact that my marginal tax rate is around 26%, and my employer funds my HSA to the tune of $50/month, my after tax and after employer funds bill was really $1,990.

For this $1,990 we had an excellent experience in the #1 ranked hospital in the state, and the room we stayed in for 2 days was bigger than many of the poverty apartments I see posted on the misc regularly (srs). As a bonus, it covered the out of pocket for the rest of the year, so the remainder of my wife's care was paid for 100% by our insurer, and pretty much all newborn/child appointments are covered 100% as well so I've paid pretty much nothing else so far.

If you have no job or a not good job it probably sucks, and Europe is probably better. For those of us who have good jobs the healthcare system here is top notch and cheap.

Here's the thing

Europe is great if you want a simpler life lower income (generally speaking for the average EU citizen), but a MUCH larger safety net from the Government. SO when someone from the USA who isn't a go getter, low to zero ambition, or just plain 'lazy' well no chit Europe looks amazing!

My dad migrated from Italy back in the 70s and so did most of my friends parents (Greek and Persian) and it's funny, becuase they're the most successful people I know and they tell me there is no way they'd ever go back to the old country, because there is literally zero mobility over there. Unlike the USA, you can come here completely broke speak zero English and in 10 years 'COULD' be rich or make more money than you'd ever would have back in the old country.

It really depends what you want in life.

Fun fact. Ambulances and hospitals do not refuse service. If you are homeless, an illegal immigrant, etc. they treat your medical conditions. There are a ton of homeless guys that claim they are suicidal and go to an ER every time its rainy/cold. They get fed/clothed/treated. They rack up hundreds of thousands of dollars in medical bills, etc. All goes unpaid. And guess what? Next time they need the hospital, they go again.

You don't technically have to pay your medical bills. They just ding your credit. Or you can set up a payment plan paying like $10 per month. Even if you are 500K in debt for medical bills you can just pay $10 per month on it until you die of old age.

Its not like if you show up needing medical care they don't treat you if you don't have insurance or already owe them money.
