berkhan takes it a little too far for my tastes and people tend to extrapolate on it even further but it's pretty simple to me personally. after i got used to the fast, i just flat out don't get hungry any more. i'm 100 times less reliant on food, food stops running my life. it's much easier to focus on having a relatively balanced meal or two a day than it is to do it 3-4-5 times around a work schedule. it's a no-brainer to me

It’s real name is skipping breakfast

Does nothing other than making it easier to eat less calories.

Research on lab animals suggest that the benefits for cellular repair, warding off chronic disease, and slowing aging are potentially significant. But to the extent they're real, they would be long-term benefits. Someone who starts fasting wouldn't necessarily see a big improvement in their health right away.

Doing IF has really improved my self-control. Today I'm much more patient and better able to resist the urge for instant gratification than I used to be, not just with food but with everything. So fasting can have benefits beyond the health effects.
I don't think I have the self control to do it for an extended period of time. Probably will just eat like normal.

This is all I found as well, I actually had decreased performance in the gym on IF. Was not a fan of it.

Don’t train fasted then? I never understood fasted training. It’s retarded.

Did OMAD (one meal a day) for nearly a year and it definitely has it's benefits but my energy levels would be drained simply by taking my dog on an extended walk so you can imagine going to the gym while on IF. Also, it was extremely hard to put on any type of muscle mass no matter how large my one meal was. Did have plenty of energy throughout the day when I didn't do much physical activity, clear minded 24/7, and never got that afternoon crash that most people get after lunch. The most notable benefit was that it decreased my blood pressure by a significant amount. Have been borderline hypertension since my teens and this brought my levels down to just about normal. Still prefer the gains I get from regular meals.

I've been doing IF for around 7 years. I did it because it works for my specific lifestyle. I had read about all the supposed benefits, namely that our digestive systems have not evolved to be processing calories all day long, and that eating larger meals within a specific window was more akin to hunting and eating when you kill and then experiencing a short fast period. I also like it because it gives me gut a break. I started eating around 12pm and stop at 7pm. It's really freeing to wake up, grab some black coffee, and start my day without worrying about making food. I also like to sit down and eat very large meals and I can do that on IF.
*Look at reflection in car window and flex every time crew*
*Use half the roll to wipe after a poo crew*
*Fart in the gym and blame rotten smell on faulty ventilation crew*
*Fart at home and blame it on the dog crew*
*Watch neutron-star density poop mock me as water flushes around it and it stays put crew*
*Drive 2 minutes in the summer and back of shirt gets completely wet crew*
*Coffee black as midnight on a moonless night crew*
*Fat shame my cat on a daily basis crew*

Fasting is the GOAT way to live for many reasons other then the more complicated technical stuff.

Convenience + how good it feels are the 2 reasons I have been on an IF eating schedule for nearly 10 years.

This so much. IF 20~ hours regularly but a 40+ hour 2-4 times a month is perfect.

Been doing it for a year or so. Haven’t noticed any benefits besides not being hungry until noon now

It messed up my morning poop schedule too

Have always skipped meals for large chunks of time, never recorded how long. Recently I got a fast app to take note, and some weeks I average 17 - 19 hours a day fasting.

My gut went away completely. I'm not sure if it's just getting over a recent breakup or not, but it kinda coincided with me getting out of a depression rut, too. But I think that was just separation from a depressed quasi-gf who was dragging me down with her.

intermittent fasted is one of the worst diets for building muscle period, and one of the worst diets also for maintaining muscle in a deficit

its a great diet for weak minded people or people looking to lose weight and still enjoy food who dont really care about keeping or gaining muscle

There isnt one single good bodybuilding coach who utilizes intermittent fasting for competitive bodybuilders or powerlifters, for a reason.

Fasting can be a tool used though for digestive issues and improving insulin sensitivity in a hurry.

Did you read the rest of my post? I am not talking about health benefits I specifically stated its not good for muscle gaining or muscle retention. Specifically just those. So if those arent your goals then ignore my post. If they are then its far more pertinient what a bodybuilding coach says than a doctor. Doctors take like 1 nutrition class in all of their medical school and im sure it has nothing to do with how to build the most muscle possible. Trust me I dated a female doctor who was a competitive bikini girl.

i totally have bro science, bro. it seems more like caveman hunting days when you go a few days before eating and then going a few days again, and maybe people operate at their peak efficiency when they are being caveman, still doing the heavy lifting

This whole caveman ideology is fukking bonkers.

1) we arent caveman
2) our bodies digestive abilities arent predisposed to being what they were when we were born
3) our digestion and partitioning is all different based on many factors in your body
4) you can actively manipulate and change how your digestion works over the course of your life
5) there is 0 evidence caveman operated BETTER eating once every 2 days than if they would have eaten 6 meals a day
6) are we striving to be like caveman? Did Cavemen live to be 150 years old and never develop disease? were they all 6 5 manmores weighing 300lbs 5% bf?
