its a great diet for weak minded people or people looking to lose weight and still enjoy food who dont really care about keeping or gaining muscle

There isnt one single good bodybuilding coach who utilizes intermittent fasting for competitive bodybuilders or powerlifters, for a reason.

Fasting can be a tool used though for digestive issues and improving insulin sensitivity in a hurry.
are you actually stating IF isn't good for juicers and celltech users?

well really, i would never have guessed

how about for the average Joe?

for muscle building and muscle retention the same aspect would go.

Best meal plan is one that is high in protein, carbs are set to a point where they provide fuel for optimal performance in the gym and recovery, fats are kept to the point they provide the amount essential for bodily function. Carbs are and highest calorie meals are centered closely around the workout time frame, and long periods of fasting are avoided to avoid any sort of catabolic effects. Its really that simple.

If you want to go more in depth each person can process X amount of protein and calories at a given time and continually feeding the body to keep Muscle protein synthesis peaked is the best way to keep and build muscle as shown in many studies. I have seen a few studies that have shown MPS is higher in people that eat every 2-3 hours than people who eat every 4-6 hours when all calories are kept the same. So based on that I would imagine even longer periods of fasting would drastically reduce total MPS.

Fasting is good for discipline and mental clarity. It's also good for religious reasons.

Lost 30lbs since March doing it. Combined with HIIT 2-3 times a week and overall cleaning up diet/sleep probably the best things I've ever done health wise.

It would only make sense that your body's digestive functions need breaks too.

Think about it your digestive system is basically working non-stop from the time you're born.

Things wear out, that's a universal truth.

Your body gets a little less efficient at assimilating nutrients from food every time you eat.

Fasting in any capacity is very good for your body.

I've been doing it for years because I'm lazy, in the last year started screwing up and not eating enough in my 1-2 meals and have lost a lot of weight I shouldn't have.

But to the topic, it's shown benefits in animal models but human benefits are uncertain. Outside of using prisoners for nutrition experiments we're never going to have a good way to mass test dieting effects. It's all reliant on BS journaling and self-reporting.

definitely not the case with keto ever, its OBVIOUSLY the fat being used as energy

We all know everyone who went on Keto ate perfectly before that and its just that carbs are evil and the only carbs they ate before keto were rice and potatos, its not that pizza, chips, cake, and cereal were bad carb choices, just that carbs are bad and dont actually give you energy.

Very true but this can be achieved by having low calorie days where you specifically eat mostly just lean protein, usually on off days, or doing one day of fasting once a month. There is no need to intermittently fast every single day for digestive benefits.

@Jestbrah

Yeah i agree with you that fasting isn't good for building/keeping muscle, also based on what greg doucette says in his videos

Do you also believe that you can build muscle and lose fat at the same time, thus avoiding the bulk/cut cycle altogheter?

What about gaining strength while losing fat?

gaining muscle and losing fat is a very complex thing and depends on certain circumstances.

Like satellite cells, a person who previously had more muscle mass and has unactive satellite cells who begins lifting and eating properly again will lose fat and "gain muscle" by activating those satellite cells AKA "Muscle Memory"

A person who has become insulin resistant and is at a higher BF % but starts dieting and exercising better will lose fat and gain muscle

A person who is natty and jumps on tech can also lose fat and gain muscle especially with insulin like growth factors being raised.

I dont think a "bulk" cut cycle is avoidable though for the VAST majority of people especially competitors. I think manipulating and keeping insulin sensitivity very high and keeping calories VERY close to maintenance is the only way to really make that possible as an athlete. Pro bodybuilders and athletes who stay in single digit bodyfat year round and only go 100-200 calories over maintenece and are on PEDs can avoid a bulk/cut cycle and add muscle but there will be a VERY small margin of fat gain in there as well.

Strength is different, strength is far more about muscle stimulation and recovery and not as dependent on calorie surplus/deficit. If you are stimulating muscle in a novel way by progressive overload and recovering, you should be able to gain strength.

I have a healthy respect and a good relationship with food, I have 3 main meals and a piece of fruit or a protein bar or some **** mid morning/afternoon if I'm hungry.

I hate big meals, couldn't imagine starving myself all day so I can eat like a pig for 1 meal and not come close to my fiber target in a single meal or have a useful level of protein. My natural eating pattern usually results in about 2.5-3k calories per day without tracking - no way in hell could I enjoy eating that much in a single meal.

I love breakfast foods, coffee, OJ, muffin, waffles, bacon and eggs, fruit salad on the side, muesli - leaving the house like a king

Who tf skips lunch? 12" sub and a white monster, who's better than you? Every tradie that just mogged your poverty anorexic IF lunch is who.

Chicken breast, maybe some brown rice, salad for dinner, maybe a rib eye a few nights a week with a baked potato - nothing heavy, can have a similar meal at any restauant without having to ear bash everybody who listens about how amazing skipping meals is for preventing chronic disease that will be cured with crispr before the end of the decade.

Nobody gives a **** about your diet - eat tasty food and don't be a social retard who can't go out for breakfast or lunch and only order black coffee with half a serve of stevia incase a telmere might shrink.

This explains most issues. People in rural areas with 98% obesity rates try these crazy ideas. More or less zero people in relatively civilized areas end up overweight. You can see in NYC, 0.0% obese people anywhere, until you go to a suburban county, where it looks like a 100% obesity rate.

The benefit IMO would be giving your digestive system has a break during the day.

I also like going long without food because I'm better able to think, focus, etc.

I don't do IF but I believe it has it's merits.

The bad part about it I imagine would be that condensing all your food into such a small window could/would potentially overwhelm digestive system.

Some benefits with IF. No doubt. Stable blood sugar and insulin levels, which themselves have secondary effects. Rather than IF 5-7 days a week, I personally enjoy doing a 3 day water fast every once in awhile. Tons of water, black coffee, electrolytes especially salt. Day 2 is hardest. There's no bro science about it either. Tons of benefits.

If someone’s diet and training is on point and goes enhanced they will get the most benefits from it. And a enhanced person with crappy diet and training will not gain much at all. Stuff helps a lot and can get bigger than you could ever could but it’s not magic

Pretty sure it's magic unless you're one of the few that has a weak response to it.
