Would you have a Downs/Tard Child?

Just curious what the misc thinks, inspired by that other thread where the Down's kid rides the teacher on the bull (just lol).

I've known one or two people with Down's kids and the kids were very much loved by their families, though they required a ton of attention/special needs work. On the other hand, I've also seen tarded kids back in highschool who would get laughed at when sent to deliver cookies to a classroom full of "normal" kids. Was pretty sad. What say you, misc? Would you have a Down's syndrome or tarded child?

Yep. My wife and I have already discussed. We may end up adopting a child with downs syndrome in the next few years. They bring a lot of joy are as deserving of love as any other child. I do understand the burden though. Even healthy children are difficult.

Would I wish for them to have it? Absolutely not. Would I love them unconditionally if they did? Absolutely I would.
My teenager has Coffin-Siris Syndrome and my toddler has mild Autism. If Down Syndrome is what the universe gives us with a third child, then that’s what we get.

I wouldn't be happy about it, but I think it's better than the alternative. And knowing that their lives are shorter would prompt us to love them all the more while they're alive. In general, the more rare or fleeting something is, the more you cherish it (with exceptions of course - nobody cherishes a rare cancer diagnosis).

I started my career working with retarded and autistic people, and I did that for seven years, which is hard to believe.

Today, I was talking with my gf and I want to get two cats, and she's like, "Are you sure you can handle them" and I'm like, "Do you know who you are talking to?" because retarded people are heinous.

The totally random craziness, violence, and disgusting stuff is on like a chimp level, when things are good.

When they are no good, it's really bad.

I am not for abortion, but I would have to have that done.

On the flipside, I learned A LOT about courage from some retarded people. I also learned that we are blessed beyond belief compared to retarded people.

We are literally like Superman compared to one.

Probably the same situation here. I'm pretty sure my girl wouldn't want to have an abortion even if the kid turns out to be retarded so I'd have to go ahead with it. I imagine I'd still love the kid unconditionally but I also think if it was just up to me I'd choose for the abortion.

A fair and thoughtful point. I was brought up against abortion, but on the other hand, especially with today's superficiality and social media, its like, if you had a boy who had Down's he'd be the class laughing stock to no end.

As someone who has a learning disability (dyslexia) and have been around autistic kids, I would definitely keep them, with the right raising they can lead good life’s with a loving family.

Instincts are real, morals have been constructed. We rely more on instincts than you'd think.

If you don't think a disabled person uses more resources than an eventual self sufficient person than lol.

Yeah, that stuff doesn't matter.

However, a retarded person is HIGHLY likely to make their family go crazy because they never end.

Also, some retarded people are happy go lucky to the point of it being hilarious.

However, I have seen retarded people who drool all day, scream and moan, rock back and forth, and play with their lips until they run with blood, and that is all day and all night.

That is no way to live and normal people cannot take that type of stress.
