And a word of advice - the best thing you can do for your child is to respect their mother.
OP - all you can do is expose him to the things you associate as positive influences in your life and let him make up his own mind.

Strong morals and values do not have to go hand in hand with religion. Don't make it seem like he needs to follow in your footsteps in regards to religion to have good character and he will disappoint you if he ends up choosing not to be religious (like his mother i presume) when he's older.

Pull yourself together OP. Your a dad now. For your son's sake can you not lay off the sauce for 10 fukn mins. Deal with your problems like a man not some child who has to kill brain cells every time something doesn't go his way. Or you can just keep going like you are now, have a child that resents you in 20 years and you can sit in your recliner getting drunk with a life full of regret and bad decisions. It's up to you

How about for starters don't get fukking hammered on a weekday morning. Then be a man and raise your kid to be less of a piece of chit than his alcoholic father and cum dumpster mother. If you abandon him now he will never have a chance. Pull yourself together FFS...

Honestly OP should be permabanned, it’s obvious he’s got some serious irl issues that need addressing and his drunken ranting on the misc only takes away from that.

You're old enough. You know better.

It's time to stop running and take a stand. Be the man you know yourself to be, and act with the kid's best interest at heart. Everything else will flow from that, and, chances are, they'll end up better.

Misc do-gooders giving Op too much credit. The real problem is that Op thinks he is the one that can "do what's right" for his kid.

I'm not sure if this was actually true but the word around town when I was in my early 20s was that Florida had some type of law where none of their residents had to do court ordered DNA tests so if you knocked a chick up you could just bounce down to Florida and never have to pay child support. I know like 4 guys who did this lol. Once I posted a pic of myself at the beach after a random trip I took and got several texts asking who I knocked up

My dad is an alcoholic and was absent the majority of the time I was growing up which is why I have zero patience for OP. I could tell you guys stories that would set everyone here a feels bullet train.

Anyway, I don't hate my dad too much because he's the reason I'm tall, athletic and good looking. If I was an ugly manlet because of him I wouldn't be nearly as forgiving. It's kinda fukd up but it is what it is

Muzzle gave some good advice.

In addition: you need to get better at regulating your emotions and your impulses ASAP.

This situation you now find yourself in is completely by your own design.

Think, and then act.

Listen brah.
If you want to instill ethics and a moral code into your kid, the most improtant thing is being consistent in your own behaviour. You have to always stick to your own principles. That's the only way to set an example.
If you drink a lot this is not going to be possible, you are going to be two people. One sober dad and one drunken dad. Both will act different.

To be able to properly instill morals into the little guy, you need to get sober.

I did it at the age of 32 (6 months ago)

but I had nothing holding me down, no kids or gf back home, work also helped cover the cost and expanded to my new location so I didn't have to find a new job.

no regrets so far but i can't really give insight on your current position because you've got a child.

Honestly... absent father or having a high/drunk/ and or miserable, wishing he were somewhere else - around isn't much better....

I think I rather take the former.

Having a completely absent father would leave you with tons of "what if" questions and that stuff will drive you crazy. At least if he's there you can see what not to do.

I'll say the kids I knew with chitty dads usually turned out better than the kids with no dad at all. The only way no dad would be better is if they were abusive
