Favorite way of doing Barbell Rows?

Momentum or strict?
Pendlay Rows or Bent-Over Rows?
From the Ground? From a Rack? Touch and Go?

How do you row?

Chest supported and/or seal rows are GOAT for actually working back muskulls.
DB rows secondary.
Pendlays or landmine T-bar rows if just feeling like rowing big weight.

Precovid, pendlay rows with that explosiveness

Post covid: I have a barbell and weights, but I wanted to focus more on calisthenics/weighted calisthenics so my favourite way is like this now

More upright with less forward lean Yates style. I like underhand grip to hit the lats more and overhand to hit more upper back and traps.

exchange bb rows for db rows, you get a better stretch/squeeze and more movement in the lats

Chest supported T bar rows

If you do dumbbell or barbell rows the NUMBER ONE thing to do is stabilize with your hips, glutes and hamstrings, NOT your lower back

During a correct barbell row your HIPS SHOULD NOT MOVE, the should not go forward or backward, also the angle of your torso to your hips should not cange. If it is you are engaging erectors and glutes to take over the movement which means you have too much weight. If you cant lift the weight without engaging your erectors, you are ego lifting.

DB rows especially you should not be :
1) moving your hips
2) twisting your thoracic in any direction other than squared up shoulder to shoulder with the floor

Also control the god damn eccentrics on rows. This jerking the weight up then dropping it back down is not only NOT working out your muscles correctly but a great cause of injury and lower back/shoulder/elbow pain

BB rows from the rack. Strap up when needed. Strict form. Do them for over a decade and the weights will get pretty beefy.

Op makes thread about BB rows. People insert on what you should do sans bb rows. Never change misc

overhand

because my wrists/forearms cant turn that much anymore
and because underhand grip really doesnt offer as much benefit as just doing specific exercises with an overhand grip.

Traditional BB or seated close grip cable if I’m in a gym (home gym free weights crew). I used to like one arm db rows a lot using a bench but don’t have a bench no mo.

So 80% of rows one sees at the gym are basically wrong?
I've actually been rather strict about not doing a jerking motion. Guessed strict form would work the back better.
Never thought one could injure ineself during rows though.

That’s just false. If you actually concentrate on pulling with your lats, you’ll feel them more in a barbell row since you can move more weight.

Bent over, slight momentum. Don't go heavier than you can handle and your lower back will be fine. Wear a belt if you need to.
With pendlay rows you don't get that stretch at the bottom.

as much as they're touted as a beginner movement imo i think its something 99% of people just shouldnt do because no one can keep their ego in check with them

i will bet everything i own that 99 out of 100 guys that do bb rows would need to do minimum half the weight they do to do a proper rep and properly engage the chit they are trying to hit

more than 80%. I actually steer clear of barbell rows because even knowing the errors everyone makes I am not confident my form will be adequate.

There is a time and place for jerking rows but thats for powerlifting, or very advanced bodybuilders overloading the eccentric. When you see a bodybuilder jerking the weight 8/10 times they will be slowly lowering it, if not they just have freak genetics and sometimes freaks can lift poorly and make big gains.

Hamstring mobility is very important to do barbell rows properly. Barbell rows are my best lift and I feel my lats and hardly feel my lower back working (and that’s after doing deadlifts).
