Homeowner/handyman brahs, weird water bubble in paint what do?

https://imgur.com/a/MLVg7OsYesterday we noticed a bubble with a sizable amount of water well up rather quickly in the living room wall. There did not appear to be any surrounding areas with any amount of water. Based on what I saw posted online I decided to pop it to dry it out. To my surprise once I popped it and dried it off it was dry beneath, as pictured. Any idea how this could be possible and what I should do if anything?

It was caused by a water leak, but the water evaporated. You have a leak somewhere that is finding it's way through a sheet rock joint.

EDIT: I just looked at your picture. Go outside and look at your roof above where the leak is. If there is a roof vent or whatever in line with the leak, that's where I'd look first.

Interesting- I think I might know what could have caused it then. I had a leak from a second story bathroom that was resolved, but had dripped down previously. Is it possible water from that evaporated up and then gathered there? That was a few weeks ago.

No lol. There's a leak above the bubble, check the roof for compromises in the roofing. Seal the compromise. Repair bubble. Crack beer.

Yes, likely, since a continuous leak, even from rainwater, would eventually create a larger bubble and/or streaking down the wall, etc.

If the leak was repaired, then just cut out the bubble with a utility knife and slap a little piece of tape and some mud over it.

If I'm not mistaken, his comment said that the water leaked down to another area, and he's wondering if it ended up evaporating up the wall and gathered to that spot, meaning the previous leak was below that bubble.

Sounds silly so I may be reading that wrong.

I assumed it was a single story house, but if it's a two story and the leak is at the ceiling joint of the first floor it would make more sense that a drain pipe was leaking in a bathroom on the second floor.

Sounds like you have a bathroom above it? That already had leaks? Sound like the leak wasn’t properly repaired. Water is crazy in a house. It will follow joints And stuff and end up in a different spot than you expect.

Try running the water you had an issue with before for an extended period of time and see if it develops again.

I suppose it’s possible it had formed there prior to the fix and the paint just decided to give out and cause the bubble. More likely there is still an issue though.

Directly above it is a roof, where the leak happened before was around 6-9 feet or so away, but the thing that makes me question that being involved is that the pipe that was backed up then runs in the opposite direction and I have a hole poked in the ceiling above it from that leak and that area has been as dry as a bone since the leak was resolved.

Its a leak. Water can travel slowly to that bubble from a different spot. It's a pain lol.

Question is, is it more likely it somehow travelled from an old leak that was resolved awhile ago to that spot, or more likely melting snow/rain got in from an issue with the roof?
