Can animals love? Srs

So I grew up with pets and I have a cocker dog now. When I am back home she sees me, dances around, licks me etc.

When she does that does she think about the food, shelter and other stuff I provide to her or she does that cuz she loves me?

Hope she ain't cucking me

Yup, likely all animals feel as much emotions as humans (and probably more/stronger in a lot of cases). Emotions is a very deeply biological trait that developed very early, its kind of like the energy that drives our decisions

Thinking that animals only care about about shelter/food etc is primitive. Practically all mammals love to play and cuddle. The more thats studied on animals the smarter and complex they realise their lives are

-Rats have been proven to help others even instead of getting food
-Orcas will cry for days if separated from their young
-Elephants bury the body of dead ones

There’s 1000s of examples in the animal kingdom

I think this video is pretty awesome though.

You’ve probably all seen it.

The lion running to hug the dude that raised it from newborn after not seeing each other for years.

Really cool

Animals will default to primal settings when under crisis. Like how some have been caught eating an owner who's passed away. Then again I am sure if some people were stuck in a cabin and their loved one died some would eat them to try live long enough for a rescue.

Then you read stories like a soldier who died in war and the dog would rest for days @ their graveyard all sad. That has to supersede affection but is that legitimate love? Probably not. As long as someone is nice to them, and feeding them they will reflect the exact same level of positive emotions.

Animals can definitely care for you and be concerned about you. These are all fringes of love.

you are a machine that dispenses the equivalent of KFC chicken, mashed potatoes, fries, and biscuits. who wouldn’t be sad if some one who gave you good food, for free, just disappeared without replacement

similar to how simps on onlyfans, Reddit, tiktok buy food and gifts for the whores. sloots don’t care about you, they enjoy what you gave them not your physical presence

There’s been studies that show some animals will opt to help others of their species instead of going for an easy meal

stranded dogs often eat their owners after death. you are nothing. animal owners are massive cucks to nature

I always lol hard as fukk at animal lovers. they don’t give a fukk about you
In some cases, it’s clear that the animals were scavenging to survive. In one 2007 report, a Chow and a Labrador mix survived for about a month after consuming their dead owner’s body, leaving only the top of the skull and an assortment of bone shards.

Not true, I remember when one of my friends grandma died and they took her dog, first few weeks she refused to eat and eventually died in her sleep. She was an old dog but the vet said she likely let herself die because she missed the grandma.

I think some can feel similar emotions for sure. Whales, for example, have been known to 'mourn' if a member of their pod dies, especially a young one. How do you mourn if you can't feel love?

Is it exactly like our feeling of love? Probably not. But I think most animals definitely feel emotions.

1)House protection
2)Special needs (like guide dogs)
3)Working dogs (guard dogs, leo/ mil dogs, shepherd dogs etc)
4)Petting a pet releases stress
5)They provide company
6) Jogging/running partner
7)Teaches you responsibility (fixed times of feeding, washing and walking pets)
8)Keeps the pests away

Otherwise viscous dogs who stand by their owners seem to 'love'. I think animals experience consciousness a lot closer to humans than people think.

Plenty of humans seem less capable of love or even reason than many animals.

Dolphins have been observed protecting humans from sharks. Where in the sex or survival instinct there? They’ve done the same thing with whales as well.

How bout orcas crying endlessly in sea world when separated from their young? How bout rats choosing to save their friend instead of getting chocolate? Where’s the sex or survival there?

Ever heard of the story of Stalin and his chicken? He picked a chickens feathers and released it to the cold winter. It came back running to him and took shelter behind Stalin's coat. Then he said "That is how you rule"

100% of loyal dogs I’ve given snacks to have absolutely loved me. If it wasn’t for their owners holding on to their leashes tight, these loyal dogs would have left their beta providers.

ROFL if you think pets don’t absolutely love a free lunch. They are even more esteemed than the ladies.

Cheers

Of course I do agree with that. There is no doubt they show affection and what not. Some say they believe their animal knows then they (the owner) are in pain yada yada who knows maybe it’s true.

I’m Just of the firm belief it’s simply because of recourses in which they stay around. It’s entrained in their evolution. Survival. Plain and simple. Like you said there are levels to affection and I’m sure they have some of it. But take away the resources and the majority may hang for a little, but then it’s time to survive.

But WTF do I know. I’m not dr. Dolittle lol

I was reading about this the other day actually because I want a dog someday.

Dogs have brains very similar to ours and emote a lot like humans , that’s why they’re considered mans bestfriend.

In the animal kingdom there is no animal closer to man than a dog. Srs.

Dogs 100% love their owners but they don’t view life or time the same as humans do. They live in a very “ for the moment” mindset.

If you died your dog wouldn’t forget about you , some actually become withdrawn and depressed when they lose a close owner but they will learn to get over you most likely.

As for dogs eating their owners apparently it’s a stress response cause by their owners death.

Not an expert , just watched a few YouTube videos FWIW.
