LOL at anyone who thinks that eddie van halen or randy rhoades was

Better guitar players than george lynch and steve vai.

Im not even a big rock guirar guy my thing is country lead.

Music is not a conpetittion and its not always about whats the most technical to play..

But if you have half an ear and i got less than half an ear you can hear it in the playing.

Im an eddie. Fan too but you can hear differences. Id go so far to say john 5. Is a better all around better player

Steve Vai has like one good song. Those “guitarists” just masturbate their huge ego with a guitar while making chit “music”.

Lynch is top tier but he doesn't come close to guys like Alexi Laiho and Jesse Cash

Lynch was way ahead of his time though. The solos he did were insane for the mid 80's

Steve Vai is arse... his music is technically challenging but has no genuine appeal (which is why no-one has ever heard of them besides fringe guitarist groups).

Eddie had what these nobodies never had.... personality and charisma. His solos are not hard to any seasoned guitarist. But Eddie up on stage with a cig hanging out his mouth, chilling on a speaker box jamming out to a sold out stadium is something most (especially these fringe guitarists) will never replicate. Its not about ripping through arpeggios and scales as fast as you can or using weird pedals with a triple neck guitar.... Eddie got that and his fans loved him for it.

Look at my boy smoking a cig and jamming with the audience like their his old friends...

Any guitarist or musician will also agree. Its why true musicians never knock Nickleback or Coldplay.... people say their music is chite and "sellout"... yet those same haters never filled a stadium, sold a platinum record, or made 100's or millions making music to fans that love them across the world.

Eddie is the man.

Do you play guitar?

Have you decided whether to man up and be a father yet or are you gonna abandon your kid like you did that thread?

Guitar playing is not about how technical you are. It's not how many notes per second or inaccessible compositions. Except for Eddie and Randy Rhoades the rest of the them (except John 5) are sausage fest virgin rock.

Music is an emotional exercise not a technical one. Beethoven who used to be a "shredder" in his younger years on piano said things to that effect.
The most memorable and emotionally moving pieces of music are not the most technical and never will be.

Music should strike fire from the heart of man, and bring tears form the eyes of woman. ~ Ludwig Van Beethoven.

No one gives a chit about a Steve Vai song or the other choads you mention except for virgin beta rock fans.

People remember and what to hear stuff that moves them emotionally or charges them up.
Aerosmith (sweet emotion) and other stuff
Def Leppard. (Almost all their songs)
Led Zep (Kashmir, Black Dog) and about a zillion others
Lynard Skynard
The Toadies Possum Kingdom
The white stripes
Queen
The Who
Nirvana (Perfect Example)
Pearl Jam
SRV
THE BEATLES!!!

The list goes on. People love this stuff because it does what music is supposed to.

People don't care about
Yingivivieweweee Malmmemastienenin's boring ass chit.
Steve Vai's boring ass chit.

Insert boring neo classical boring note per second shredder here.
They just write very boring uninspired garbage.

It's not about being technical.
It's about people remembering and humming your songs when they leave the venue or get done hearing the track.

Edit: B.B. King used to make fun of fast players. He said he can do more with one note than they can with all their BeBop.

Also You can tell it's David Gilmore with one note...

Malmsteen has good music, not sure why people write him off.

No man has the right to be an amateur in the matter of physical training. It is a shame for a man to grow old without seeing the beauty and strength of which his body is capable.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Music is an art. I play a little guitar myself and just don't really care about someone shredding a super technical solo with 10 zillion notes in it. Some of my favorite things are relatively easy to play

Is OP drunk as fuk in every thread he starts? I almost never click on his threads but when i do he's ****d up making outlandish claims like he invented the question mark or accuses chestnuts of being lazy. Every guitar player has their own style and genius. Jimi Page was one, but he sounds completely different than Eric Clapton. EVH was amazing at improvising and creating solos that blew people away. And he could take over a stage with just a guitar. Slash was the same way when you watched him live.

Guys that grew up and really LOVED the guitar just showed you all the time that they could shred like nobody else.

Take Vai out of your list there, he never had the intention of making mainstream music to begin with. EVH and George Lynch are great songwriters and guitar players. Randy Rhodes I've never been a fan. I don't think he is in the tier with the top 80s rock guitarists. His solos have this quality...and I'm just describing what it sounds like to my ears, it sounds like he's playing on the limit of his ability. It's not necessarily sloppy per se but it sounds like its difficult for Rhodes to get through the solo, like he's really buckling down and concentrating at the limit. EVH in comparison never sounds like he's working that hard, every note just flows like water. It's like two cars both going the same speed but one is at the redline and the other is comfortably at 3500 rpm.
