Guys who live in snow whats your winter coat?

First time really living in the snow and need winter coat suggestions.

Extra credit if its a brand that doesn't put their emblem all over the place. I think its cringe to advertise Micheal Kors or whatever on my clothes.

Outdoor Research makes some great gear at fair prices.

Also get a pair of wool glove liners in case you have to take off your heavy gloves, they'll buy you time without losing all the heat in your hands. Get a pair of insulated boots so you don't have to get your good shoes wet. I have a pair of Merrell Thermo Chills that I beat up here every winter and still take with me to ski resorts.

Arcteryx Beta AR shell over a Mountain Hardwear Monkey Man fleece for 0 and up in wind. Wearing this combo today as it's snowing with wind (-2 real feel)

Mountain Hardwear Sub Zero parka if it gets really cold. -9 and below

Are you planning on moving around/sweating, being outside for extended periods or is this just for walking from a building to a car? Because it makes a huge difference.

The frou frou coats that city dwellers are useless when it gets really cold. They are for looks over function.

If you are going to be outside a lot I recommend a separate shell and liner. That liner being wool, fleece, synthetic down. Real down once it gets wet with sweat or water is useless. Any of the outdoor and hunting brands will be fine - North Face, Marmot, Arcterix, etc...

I used to ski a lot and there is nothing worse than being on the slope while being wet and cold.

bought this wool coat 5 years ago. I do a lot of outdoor winter events & this thing will make me sweat above 40 degrees. I was outside for 7 hours for a new years event in the 20 degree range & it kept me almost too warm.

It has worked so good I picked up a used one on ebay for a backup a couple years ago.

I think i paid around $100 for it brand new from Target.

Moose Knuckle Down parka. Best coat I’ve ever had. Bought it for like 1000 bucks 6 years ago and it still looks at feels brand new. Warm as hell too.

Live in Norway btw, so I’m in legit snow country.

This is correct. Down has awesome thermal properties, but it stops working if you're active or in wet east coast winter weather. As soon as it's damp, you're in for a world of hurt.

on mine the emblem is literally half the size of the regular jackets, not sure why, and its also blacked out (the jacket is black too) so you literally don't notice it unless you're standing right next to me

Edit: just looked through the current collection and they're all kinda ugly except 2. guess my model has been discontinued

Usually if it is cold enough to use a down garment you will not be dealing with any moisture. There is a reason down suits are used at altitude. Also unaware of treated down that is hydrophobic?
