Possibly getting accused of cheating on internet college test

Cliffs
-Use canvas (online tests due to covid )
-Received an email that students were under a cheating investigation as a result of "quiz tracker" flagging irregularities

Looked into canvas online tests quiz tracker, it tracks if you visited other pages during an exam (ok cool I didn't do that) or if you took a long time to answer questions (I do that every quiz)

But apparently it's inaccurate and it also counts connection interruptions, my wifi (Hotspot) went in and out like 40 times briefly during the exam and the test notified me my connection was lost. However I just continued taking the exam without issue.

Recorded the next exam I did clearly showing I did not exist the browser incase I get accused, however i did not lose internet connectivity.

What do I do if I get accused? I feel like the connectivity issue is going to put me on the flag list

Well you haven’t been accused of anything so not much to worry about at this point.

You didn’t cheat.

You said they recorded the test, so I’m sure they’re review that recording, see than you were having connection issues and move on.

If they do formally accuse you of cheating. Just simply tell the truth. Tell them you did not cheat, and they can review the tape. You simply had connection issues.

If they press further than that, stop talking to them and seek some sort of actual council. Either some student aide stuff or a lawyer if you have the means

This kind of questioning confuses me. "Experience matters to succeed in care." Thus, inexperience proves you did not provide sufficient care.

So, how did the experienced person ever provide legally acceptable care? Were the first 10,000 hours of work all subject to a lawsuit? What about actually incompetent people, like techs or nurses, do they suddenly know how to do it because of more hours? No, they never do, and experts do not need as many hours as idiots to learn things, and they either do it right or not, the time does not directly indicate competence. In fact a common measure of competence is how many repetitions someone needs to master something, with people you would want as physicians succeeding after 1-2 repetitions, typically.

Literally just deny, and tell them them no and you don't know what they're talking about. No more info is needed to tell them. They'll probably be looking to make someone an example, i wouldn't give them any ammo of information to possibly be able to twist.

Canvas tracks if you’ve clicked off the tab of the quiz so you could just open up a new browser and still cheat without getting caught

Lmfao, what's stopping someone from using their phone to look up answers? If professors want to ensure that cheating doesn't occur, don't recycle test questions or use the question banks that comes straight from the book. I love it when they're lazy and reuse the exact same tests (verbatim) every semester, but are quick to call kids out for cheating.

Don't worry too much, OP. Cross that bridge when (if) you get to it. You did nothing wrong, so don't stress too much.

you are probably fine but if somehow you do end up in the situation where you are being formally accused, you need to seek actual legal advice. being convicted of academic cheating will fuk you over for life. can't apply to any secondary schools, etc.

They do not record it, i put on my phone camera to record it incase they accused me of irregularities on the last test like switching tabs. in which case i have absolute proof i did not

so basically professors/students on reddit say that the tab tracking can report disconnections as new tabs. Im afraid that will come up as an irregularity and i cant really prove I had connectivity issues or even worst it says I opened a new tab when disconnects occured

did they ask you to install a plugin? If so, then they can probably see what you were doing

iirc if you click off screen or into another application/tab/website, they won't know what it is exactly...

They only use canvas quiz tracker which counts if you go afk, open new tabs, or access lectures/pp during exam

A lot of schools require an extension which monitors your screens and your camera and then they review it later to make sure you weren't looking away a lot. I've had to hold my camera up, do a 360 in the room to make sure nobody else was with me, and show my id before it would let me start taking tests. It's still obviously possible to cheat, but it does make it a lot harder and more inconvenient to do so if they are monitoring the entire thing (even watching it after the fact). If it's just the canvas tracking where you clicked then yeah just simply use another window and or your phone....or just don't cheat anyway, but yeah every school/class requires different things.

I took a course online when i was in college, and never even heard of this crap. In fact I literally sat on the toilet while sh!tting, as i took my final for that single class.

If I were you, I would literally just put tape on my webcam and claim it stopped working for some reason, or you can go further to just uninstall it. They can't dictate what you have going on with your personal computer or home. They can eat a bag of dicks.

update: we were notified that individual students were emailed directly if they were implicated. Thankfully I was not.

I am curious to which classmates will disappear next semester though. My guess is some of them assumed there was no tracking technology (I always assumed there was some) and they likely accessed power points/videos during the exam on canvas. Another guess is the cliches within my class shared answers, seems like something the women would do

Luckily I'm an anti-social miscer and don't have to be caught up in that stuff, nobody shares crap with me

This is a class for a specific med related field so you can simply fail a class and retake it. Your kicked out and that's it, you can reapply in a year to start it completely over.
