I am sitting in a separated apartment designated for quarantine of people exposed to the coronavirus. I am not allowed to leave for ANYTHING except a doctor’s appointment. I have the bare necessities for my academics and no snacks other than the 3 meals I get delivered to me, I can’t even cook (i know I shouldn’t complain since my situation is miles better than many but the point is I shouldn’t be here). I am here through no fault of my own, my roommate decided to go to a gathering of over 10 people and he contracted the virus. He told me 4 days afterward (once he and the friends he was with were showing symptoms) that he had gone to this gathering, and I’m f***ing appalled at how goddamned stupid you have to be to think that, after almost 200,000 people dead and MILLIONS infected, going to a hangout of 10+ is a good idea.

Yesterday, my friend who lives at north side told me about how she watched a poolside party of approximately 40 people jam out without masks. A SINGLE police officer shows up to respond to it, and as a result, everyone proceeded to run away in panic. The police officer said something like, ‘where did they all go?’ and just left. He didn’t even ticket a single person. F***cking incredible.

And what can the school do about it? Disciplinary actions, so pretty much nothing without names of people, and evidence that they were there. Given the fact that these gatherings and parties haven’t stopped, it’s obviously not working. As for north side, all the staff do is go to the party and tell the residents to stop. They don’t get the police involved, and they don’t even notify the university of the people that were there (not like a Northside worker can demand ID).

Point is, I’m pissed and you should be too. I don’t understand what we can do to demand accountability and disciplinary action for people who violate restrictions, literally all one can do is call the police and hope someone gets at least a ticket. Do we as a student body need to put pressure on the administration to take action? Do we need to make a petition? Idk. What the actual f*** is wrong with some of you?

This needs to be reiterated over and over again. Almost all of the people are over 55. It's a literal joke. If you are under 65 you should be outside getting sick and getting antibodies, if you are over that age then you should be locked down, not everyone else.
