Help me understand the purpose of the 600$ stimulus check?

I understand that the first check was to supplement the unemployed. But what is the purpose of printing the money for this?

If the unemployment rate is 6.7% (22million people) why not focus on them with the checks, if they used the arbitrary 600$ number it would only have caused 13.2 billion instead of 168 billion.

Also if you're going to distribute collective tax money for a stimulus why exclude the 9% of people that make over 100K in the us, in the scheme of things its not -that- much more. If you make over 100K you pay more in taxes than someone making 60K anyway so its only right that you deserve to get your money back.

It was to silence the majority of people. The 600$ isnt a big part of that package. Most of it is for gender studies in Pakistan and funding for Sudan. Im sure theres some Israeli funding and transgender things too. (Didnt get that far yet, its 5000+ pages)

1. Its to stimulate the economy. They won't do a tax deduction because then a lot of people won't get it. They want you to go out and spend it on food/TVs/cars/rent etc which will benefit the restaurants/landlords/corporations. They don't want you to stick it in the bank. They want you to spend it.

2. Its to make people happy. People would get pissed if they passed another bill to benefit corporations and give nothing to "the little guy."

To hide all the other bullsh!t inside the 5500 page bill. Simpletons won't care for anything other than a $600 check whilst playing their Call of Duty, meanwhile you are selling your soul to Pakistan, Israel, Sudan, Cambodia, and other foreign parasite fukholes leeching off your taxes.

A $600 deduction is peanuts. Unless you're thinking of reducing taxes owed by $600. The problem is that would be technically difficult to implement unless you use a tax credit, which is exactly what the check is.

But it also would only help the people who need it the least.

All the gov't knows how to do is throw money at problems. Allowing businesses to open back up would be stimulus enough.

Incorrect. Unemployment benefits are for the unemployed.

The first reason is "feelings." It makes people feel better about "excluding the wealthy," and it brings the overall number down slightly. However there is also a practical reason. Poor people are more likely to put the money right back into the economy...hence "economic stimulus." This changes with the higher the earnings of the person. As you get higher and higher into the income brackets, you notice a shift from people who will immediately put the money back into the economy to people who will just bank the money or pay on a debt.

A lot is going to other countries.

This isn't a stimulus bill it's literally a pork vehicle. How do you think it's 5000+ pages so quickly. EVERY SINGLE pork project our politicians have wanted to spend money on is getting shoved into these things.

If $600 makes a difference in your quality of life, chances are you are fuked with or without COVID.

Sadly this. The $600 check is nothing more than a distraction. Not even just the money overseas but even domestically the stuff in here doesn't make sense. I think Thom Tillis has his Protecting Lawful Streaming Act about movie piracy making it a felony to stream copyrighted material in there. If that's something that they want to explore and get done then fine. But trying to allow entertainment studios and copyright holders greater access to the FBI doesn't seem like something that should have a place in a stimulus bill.

Perhaps, but when you are a family of four, that has suffered job losses and illness, 2400 goes a long way in catching up.

So the people who are financially savvy can dump it in the stock market and the retards of society can blow it on a PS5 thus creating a further gap in wealth only for those idiots to eventually blame the system for their lack of wealth.

Good points made ITT.

Now that more of the utter BS of the bill is getting exposed I must say out loud, "What in the actual phuck?" A few weeks ago I was pissed because of the student loan repayment talks. As a country we could have made a big dent in that debt which presumably would help spur the economy, But instead they completely pissed printed money down the drain, like how much did they give to other countries? Not to mention who knows if they will keep pushing the student loan crap in the future to boost inflation even more.
