Some music is just unaesthetic to some peoples ears. For me heavy metal just isn’t pleasing...I wish it got me hyped up and was an additional genre that I could add to my playlist but it does nothing for me.

Usually the instruments are too grungy/distorted. Combine that with terrible growling and yelling, and you’ve got chit music. I love metal, and it’s most of what I listen to, but death metal stains it tbh.

Look at the albums that have been posted in this thread. Both from the mid-90s. DM is a genre of music that peaked creatively like two generations ago. Most new stuff just isn't that good. It's like asking why people don't listen to bebop or Miami freestyle-these are old genres and frankly everyone who would be interested is already aware of it. Young people aren't going to invest in dead art forms.

I love the brutal bludgeoning sound of death metal like immolation and the beautiful sound of a band like symphony x

sounds pretty good to me. I think most people make the mistake of starting out in death metal, of course it will sound bad. It's similar to hard drugs, you need use some gateway drugs and once their potency wears off, make the transition.
Start off with heavy metal/power/doom metal, eventually you may desire something a bit heavier and faster (thrash/black/death which are all derivatives of heavy metal).

Some of the music is GREAT however the lyrics and singing do not seem artistic to me but more like fake and like "we have to do it this way". I like rock because it tends to be genuine artistic expression of the writer.
Death metal cannot be an expression of anything. You can't understand the lyrics, it's all waaaahhh brrrd ah waaaah and that is not real.
