I dont know what that man bun wearing ******* did, but he and his dad didnt act much different than any other excessive force video that comes out. He didnt try that hard to cooperate and made things more difficult.

That being said, fuk both of those cops. Fire them and remove their qualifications to be cops

Wtf? The son immediately got out of the car with his hands up and the father was standing on the sidewalk 10 metres away. They couldn't possibly have cooperated any more than that.

used to have the right to resist an unlawful arrest and in the case where the officer was killed the charge would be at most manslaughter but the courts are a joke now the whole system is a joke there is no justice just a bunch of authoritarian psychopaths everywhere

1. Both those cops are idiots and handled this situation about as poorly as you could imagine

2. Both the son and father handle this situation poorly as well

You can obviously 100% stand by, ask questions, record police, etc, but when they tell you to do something, you should listen. You never know what the police are dealing with, and this whole "I know my rights" and continuing to press an issue when the officer on scene is dealing with something, and not listening to the officer giving you lawful orders (like get out of the roadway, take a step back) is not okay either. That escalates the situation for everyone.

But obviously the cops handled this situation extremely poorly as well, and that should not be okay either. Sure, rolling up a window as you're walking up to a car is annoying and can be a sign of something else, but read the scene and don't be a dick. Also, this guy was already handcuffed and you're telling the dad you'll arrest him for blocking the roadway when there's no more cars around... A cite at best. Throw it on top of the other officer just walking up and listening to his partner without any other info "arrest that pedestrian for blocking the roadway".... what? Not okay either.

And he did listen. Parked his car and came back on foot to stand 10 metres away and record the ridiculous arrest of his son.

The body cam cuts out so you can't tell how long it took him. He only made it worse when the other stupid officer said "put your phone down and turn around" and he said, "no".

Everyone is definitely not fookin wrong in this situation.

The father starts pulling away at 1:15 so we know exactly how long it took him.

Then the power-tripping sergeant says "arrest him". For what? Standing on the sidewalk 10 metres away? JFL. I wouldn't put my phone down as well because I'd be in absolute shock and disbelief just like the father in this video.

You don't know because it doesn't show him pulling away completely. He's slowly backing up, doesn't show him completely backing up, why they wouldn't show him completely backing up if he did there?

He clearly said in the video to arrest him for blocking a roadway, which is a lawful detention. IDK how their detentions/arrests work, so I can't comment on that part.

Not if the other officer already decided to cite/detain him, but was unable to, which is what happened. No matter if the cop is being petty or a dick, legally he is in the right here.

Obviously the cops are stupid here, but acting they are 100% in the wrong and the father/son are 100% in the right is also stupid. For people saying this is trivial and petty... yes, you're right. But also keep in mind how understanding people are of questioning the police and their intentions, rightfully so, especially if you're a person of color. You also should keep in mind, more police were killed during routine traffic stops and unprovoked attacks in 2019, than unarmed blacks were killed by police. So if it's okay for a person of color to be on edge during a police encounter, it should also okay for a police officer to be on edge during a traffic stop.

The counter for this argument is that the police put themselves into these situations (whether by initiating the traffic stop, or simply being a police officer), which is true. The same can be said for people involved in police shootings though, as in most of those situations, simply complying with the police would mean they would be alive today.

Doesn't matter, common sense should prevail, his thought process is clear as day, the public obviously deem it unacceptable behaviour. That guy has no business being a cop.

Common sense often times does not prevail, but you're otherwise right in my opinion, based off this short video clip. I wouldn't want to or be comfortable working with someone like that. The fact that the second officers walks up and immediately becomes a problem as well, instead of slowing everything down, shows bad department culture IMO.

He was filming in public on a PUBLIC sidewalk which is a first amendment protect activity .

You supporting these pigs is disgraceful.

You not KNOWING the law as a law enforcement officer is even scarier.
He did break the law. In California at least, you could get him for delaying/obstructing an investigation, and blocking the roadway. All states I'm aware of have similar laws. Both would be completely legal detentions/cites/arrests. Obviously in bad taste, something I wouldn't do or be comfortable seeing done, I'm not defending that, but you're taking a position based on a completely false narrative, based on your own lack of knowledge. You also don't need to articulate what law has been broken right away.

I'm of the opinion that police officers should be extraordinary humans (which the pay should reflect). People that are quick to anger, even more so than the general public, definitely shouldn't be given that authority.

And I agree with that 100%

Unfortunately, that's not the reality of any profession. Police already go through a pretty lengthy background check, polygraph, psychological exam, and normally 3+ interviews (initial, background, captains, chiefs, not including the psych and polygraph exam). It could be better, but it could be a lot worse as well.

Personally, I think increasing pay, but decreasing the number of officers and problems would be a good solution. Probably around 30-60% of the calls I go to could be handled by a non LEO position. I should do some more research on this, because that's just an estimate from my head. But if you decrease those calls to be handled by people without powers of arrests (and guns), you could pay them less, have it be a nice "test" to see if you should become a LEO (would still be working under the PD), and you could pay actual LEOs more, and since you're decreasing the number and increasing the pay, you could be more selective and have a higher quality of officer.

It would also be a good way to "get rid" of the bad cops. If you're not performing well, getting complaints or lawsuits, you get demoted back to the lower position, so you're not getting fired (that's a whole different issue, because workers rights and stuff in government work), but you're still not having the power to realistically ruin someone's life over your ego or otherwise poor decision making.

This would also allow more funding to go to other civic issues, as you wouldn't need to replace 1 cop with 1 "community service officer" type position, and you wouldn't need to increase the pay that drastically to make it worth while. Also, higher incentives for education, and more specialties within certain positions would be nice. If you want to be a mental health officer (because those are necessary) it should require additional education, from an actual institution, not just a police related position. Certain specialties should require additional education, not just a two week law enforcement course on the issue (that should be in additional to any formal schooling). These positions of course should pay accordingly, and be a separate career path of sorts, getting away from the military ranks in PDs.

What's the deal with fired officers getting hired in other departments? Every time I follow a story where a cop is finally held accountable and fired, he seems to get a job pretty much instantly in another area. Shouldn't they be blacklisted for life?

The rest of your post I agree with.

They should 100%

I really only see that happening at either small departments, where they probably don't have the resources for very good background checks, or large departments, where there are just so many applicants where lying can and does get through. There's also the issue of small time Sheriff departments, where basically anyone can get hired if the Sheriff says it's okay (elected position, so technically his will is the "will of the people"). Or it's just lazy background investigators, and yes there's almost definitely some "I know a guy" corruption in there too.

It's wrong, it shouldn't happen, it's a problem.

Me personally, I've switched departments. They got every single monthly and yearly eval I was ever written, and asked be about anything out of the ordinary, and I know they read them all because they brought up some random stuff I didn't remember. Specifics came up on the polygraph and psych. More specifics on the chiefs and background interviews. Pretty hard to hide something if they do a good background check like that. All employment history is stored though CA POST (Peace Officers Standards and Training) so there is no way to "hide" it. I'm not sure how other states document that stuff. Also keep in mind my department is fairly well funded, we have the resources to have full time background investigators and enough staffing to give them whatever time they need to do the job.

I am glad an officer could drop by and personally show us through example everything thats wrong with U.S policing mentality

The sooner people realize that police are nothing more than revenue farmers and stop conversing with them the better. Comply and say nothing. These guys have no responsibility to 'serve and protect' you. They exist to take your money and give it to city hall.

Nothing more, nothing less.

Don't see the problem here?

Just shut your mouth and do as you're told. If you're innocent, you have nothing to worry about.

Do they really need to make a scene of a routine traffic stop? He's lucky he didn't get shot for putting up his windows.
