This theory does not really mean much for any system of responsibilities. You need concrete choices from people in the real world.

Freedom within limited choices, most of them pre-dispositioned. My life unfolding is basically due to my genetics and upbringing that I had no control over. Now I have choice and a degree of freedom, but they are heavily influenced by the aforementioned.

I think i have always been inclined to "determinism" even though i wasnt even aware of the word. Ive always wondered why am i so different, is there something in my brain that differs from the majority of people? (sounding like EOD lol)
I dont think i ever felt envy towards anyone. Nor jealously or hate. However im not completely neutral, because i have always been compassionate, gentle, or empathic.
Since i was a little kid, i treated everyone the same doesnt matter if they had power or money. To this day i still befriend people without really caring about their money, status, age, etc. If its a nice person id treat them nicely and thats it.
On the other side i have been judgemental towards people though. Like significant others, judging them about their sexual past or bad choices, so at the same time when it comes to people i love im still biologically biased towards feelings and emotions.
I guess thats a good thing? To still be in touch with my humanity and let myself be affected by life to a deep level.
Im glad miscers were willing to enter this thread and discuss it and express their point of view. Guess the place isnt as empty-minded as i thought after all, some very interesting *******s on this forum.
"The flowers bloom, then wither... The stars shine and one day become extinct. This earth, the sun, the galaxies and even the big universe, someday will be destroyed. Compared with that, the human life is only a blink, just a little time. In that short time - people are born, laugh, cry, fight, are injured, feel joy, sadness, hate someone, love someone. All in just a moment. And then, are embraced by the eternal sleep called death."

Op had a choice to not make this thread - yet he did.
All of us who chimed in had a choice to not read - yet we did
We also had a choice to not respond. Yet we did
Or did we not have that choice and this dilemma was all preplanned and written?
I went back and forth 10 times - slapped myself 5 tomes. Pinched myself 10 times telling myself (not srs) to not continue typing and instead finish the work I’m getting paid to do. Yet I went ahead and posted this.
So no choice?

Every time you choose the more difficult/less likely action you nudge the probability towards this different choice being repeated. It is "training the elephant" and is a slow incremental thing.
Sort of like an asteroid being impacted by a smaller rock that nudges it into a course that is just a fraction of a degree different- at first it appears that nothing changed, but a million miles later the asteroid impacts a moon (or doesn't) and carries some novel virus or bacteria to a new home (or not).
And I understand there are factors of random chance and that you can still see it as the snake eating its own tail (you were preconditioned to be able to choose a different action due to your genetics or environmental factors).

Ie; we create a simulated world down to the atoms that is similar to our own and record every piece of information and then do experimentation to see if something greater is occurring to create true randomness, but even then it would most likely be that whatever was creating the appearance of randomness is a product of a lack of our knowledge in studying the system. The most likely scenario, from what we do know, is that everything eventually, with enough intelligence and technology can be categorized and counted, even with quantum states. So therefore, given infinite knowledge and infinite power you could predict to the exact atom and even smaller, everything that will ever occur in this universe, or going backwards everything that has occurred.. .
What you describe here...

In order to show compassion, I think there first needs to be a level of respect and understanding. Many people do not extend kindness and understanding to others and instead say things like "I have no sympathy for x people".
The Bible, whether you are an adherent or not, offers us a lot of ancient wisdom that we should consider. Consider the following:
"I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, not the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill;but time and chance happeneth to them all."

There is a dichotomy to be sure- the need to not allow freeloaders who are well able to do more has to be balanced w/compassion and understanding.

If you consider every note as choice, and the strength you press the notes as choice too, and the rythms you play also as choices then you can consider this improvisation as an sequence of choices. Often this composition/sequence will sound random without any sense in it, but sometimes you will catch some melodies that make sense or invoke some emotions in you . If you reverse the time at the moment this hypothetical jazz musician was born and play it again will he improvise the same piece of music at exact same time in his life due to determinism or he will play something completely different? It's the same thing with abstract painting on canvas. For all my misc philosophers help me out with this one:
I agree with the OPs statement and determinism etc etc. However after hundreds of hours of meditation I’ve come to realize that “thoughts” come from absolutely nothing. When deep in meditation I can watch a thought emerge from complete nothingness. It has zero source, even though normally we think it does. They are not sequential at ALL. Many enlightened beings also say this and go much deeper with this. I can see this be the 1 thing that is in conflict with deterministic thinking. Almost like they are coming from an independent, higher source. What do you guys think

No one's gonna care what I say but, I'm passionate about this topic.
Sorry but no. Yes something is predetermined, and that's our brain.
Environment and external factors can, to an extent, enrich our brain health. Which = more control, able to distinguish and follow principles. You like and respect yourself, and you're successful.
Whereas an unhealthy or subpar brain = less control of yourself, no self discipline, not even able to distinguish let alone follow character principles, therefore you fail.
A lot of modern culture is toxic to a healthy and fully ignited brain. Search SPEC scans and MRIS of various brains and brain research.
It's incredible. IMO External factors are really only 20%, and our brain's predetermined capacity is the other 80%.
Someone born with a average IQ can do brain exercises and pound themselves into a slightly better functioning brain, more creative etc.
Someone born with a high IQ can do the reverse.
I also believe that there's individuals who wouldn't be able to change their brain health enough to be considered. (Extreme IQ nonfuctioning autists, or low IQ downsyndrome, and other neurological disorders like schizophrenia.)

I think all thoughts originate from the Akashic records. Although the term is Hindu, I believe the concept exits in all major religions. I recall someone quoting the bible saying "every thought is recorded before it was even thought of".
I look at the Akashic records as an infinite deck of cards. Each of us has free will to pick or let go of whichever "thought" deck of cards we want to hold in our mind at anytime.
I also believe all cards carry some type of magnetism (varying high to low) and that many people can share the same thought card. In fact the more people share the same thought card, the stronger the magnetism and the harder it is to let go of that card. This idea came from my reading books on Morphic Resonance.
I also believe each thought card has higher and lower frequencies. Just like Misc threads, some are low frequencies, some are high. Our free will is our ability to choose which thread we open or skip, which will either raise or lower our own frequencies, plus whatever we post will raise or lower it for ourselves and whoever else reads our posts.
However, the catch is again magnetism. Sometimes it's easy to open threads (with lower frequencies) I don't want, because that high magnetism is there. It takes daily practice to avoid opening high magnetic/low frequency threads. It also take the existence of a thread with an equally or greater magnetic force that has potential to emit higher frequency to over-ride opening a lower frequency thread with high magnetism.

I just meant to say I believe it but try not to drown in it in it or entertain those thoughts too much because it would be a downward spiral leading me with knowing there is no purpose. (This is all personal frame of reference, not speaking for others.)
I'd rather accept the idea that we live in a simulation but pretend we don't, and play along.
If you put me on a jury for a murder trial, and the défendent has had MRIs and psych evals that come back "normal", and he says he's sorry but that he had no other choice I wouldn't excuse the crime. If I had direct power, I'd also make sure he faced execution or eternal isolation in a prison.
Ik determinism tells me this is the path he had to take and it waspredetermined, and that him eventually being executed for his crime was also predetermined. But what if I had voted not guilty and used the idea of determinism, to excuse the murderer, and my vote led to him not receiving any repercussion?
It's a slippery slope of how you use determinism imo or else the world wouldn't be topsy turvy and upside down in ethic and principles.
Tldr: I cope hard every day, lolz.

I’ve been feeling this for a few years now. I think self-aware people realize it as they get older.

When Trump faces a reality she can't stand, she becomes highly emotional and illogical. Every crisis is met by histrionics, tantrums and an inability to deal with facts. "Its a HOAX! Its a FRAUD!"
The emotion then becomes the reality. Those of us with girlfriends are familiar with this phenomena. Donald Trump menstruating 24/7: "Blood coming out of his eyes, blood coming out of his WHEREVER."

This way of thinking is turning me into a person that cant judge others, nor praise others. For example:
- A millionaire that built his empire from the ground up and has a perfect traditional happy family
- A homeless dude asking for money on the street
To me they are the same, and i would treat both of them exactly the same. One of them isnt worth more than the other IMO. Why? Because they both are a result of their nature and their nurture. If the millionaire had been born on the exact same shoes as the homeless dude and with his same exact brain/personality/body, he would have lived the same exact life. Same for the other way around. I know i sound like im high but im not.
When i see a school janitor, i wonder if he could have been more if he had been born in a wealthy family and if he had been given a good education. When a person commits murder, i think that they never had a choice, a combination of all the experiences they lived trough their lives plus the physical body that they were born with (including the brain) its what ultimately got them to make that choice. So yeah they should be put in prison, but not judged harshly, murderers didnt make the choice before being born of living the life of a person that would eventually become a murderer.
If a person decides to lose 100 pounds and change their lives, they were always going to make that choice. It really isnt something they had control of, something happened and they lived all the experiences on their lives necessary and they were born with a brain and personality necessary in order to make that choice.

I feel like every single one of us has a path set in stone, a single line of fate that we would follow exactly the same even if we could live our lives a hundred times, we would always take the same way when we encounter a crossroad.
This way of thinking is turning me into a person that cant judge others, nor praise others. For example:
- A millionaire that built his empire from the ground up and has a perfect traditional happy family
- A homeless dude asking for money on the street

Free will doesn't exist. The only real choice we have is where we focus our attention, which eventually yields results days, months years and even decades down the track. The momentum from previous focus is what drives us each and every day and as we receive thoughts and act accordingly, the illusion of free will arises. But it just that, an illusion. In reality, the brain is like a radio tower sending and receiving thoughts, but there is no "thinker" or even a "doer" of action, just an awareness of thoughts being sent and received. Here's the interesting part......The more you focus on better feeling thoughts, the more better feeling thoughts you receive and vice versa. Understanding this is the secret to life.

Your example is one i used before ITT. I believe in this scenario, i wouldnt judge this person, but i wouldnt let them free either. You commit murder, then you are a danger to society and you need to stay in prison for the sake of others. It the crime is brutal enough, then you should be executed but in a painless way.
I would feel empathy for a murderer though, believe it or not. Pure evil is just a combination of extremely bad enviroment growing up plus an extremely bad hand dealt at birth genetically.
Another example: a p3dophile.
Its not like conscious being is floating around in the universe before entering a human body, and somebody gives them the choice of what kind of life to live. I dont think the universe its like "yo, soul, theres a body there for you to habit, however your uncle will touch you sexually since day 1 so yeah, you are going to have a very tough and sad childhood. You gonna be a p3do too because the body you are going to habit wont have the brain necessary for you to fight trough these life events and somehow come up on top"
Dont think the soul or the consciousness will be like "damn that sucks... oh well better get going" lol.
Childish example i know but it explains my thought process. A p3do didnt choose to live trough whatever the fuk they lived in order to become one. Its not like at one point they could choose between normal sexuality and p3dophilia.
So id feel empathy. The guy would be punished and taken from society but still, id feel bad if the p3do was raped in prison and just left for dead bleeding out.
However what if people i love were victims of them? I dont think id be as understanding and philosophical then lol, id probably want them to suffer. Ultimately am i hypocritical?
Speaking like this IRL will raise a lot of eyebrows and people will think you are a weirdo tho but thankfully the misc gets it to an extent (even if some dude told me on first page that i wanted to justify murderers and p3dos lol)

Some experiences ive lived, some coincidences ive experienced... some weird **** has happened my entire life that makes me believe the universe is "at my side" or something.
Dont think this goes well with determinism but its just what i believe TBH. My mind is all over the place regarding the universe right now lol

Science has already answered the question. We live in an approximately deterministic universe. For the scales at which we exist, it is almost entirely deterministic. Free will is mostly an illusion. There is a fundamental randomness at the small scales, but it is neither something you control nor is it relevant at the scales at which we exist, barring some contrived examples. There is also the fact that if you do believe in free will in the sense that your choices are not a function of the past, you must also accept that electrons have free will in the same sense. In my view, it is simpler to just conclude that our choices are illusions.
It doesn't mean you have no control over your life. You still think and make choices, but there is an underlying mechanism for how you do this. While the choice can be just an illusion, completely determined by the system, it doesn't make it any less meaningful to you. You think you think, and that is real enough. I mean...that's as real as it's gonna get. To really have free will in the sense religious people talk about, you'd need a mechanism for your will to change the universe. But we all have some will or identity that, while it may ultimately be determined by the universe, certainly still matters to us.

If a being with infinite intelligence analyzed the world since the very first day, he would have predicted the outcome of the universe with exact precision till the final day, or to an infinite time.
Since the first explosion, everything could have been predicted, every single galaxy formed, every single planet, every single living organism and every little choice they made. Every single thing was set in stone since the beginning.
You cant change what will happen in 10 years. You think you can but it already happened, its just a matter of ALLmattermoving towards the direction and in the exact precise way it needs to move in order to be where its going to be in 10 years

I only read the OP, but you are WRONG.
I went from homeless to making multiple 6 figures within 3 years
It took a little capital, some planning, lots of time just working.
Now, if you were to ask me if anyone else could do what i did. I would say MOST could. BUT most don't.
I believed in myself and achieved what NOBODY else thought i could, srs. Sometimes that's all it takes to take control of your own life and future.

i think you're trying to think too logically. logic is a man made construct. it doesn't mean that the universe abides by logic. we may be able to frame the universe in a way that makes sense, but that doesn't mean that's all there is
nikola tesla invented tons of stuff with electricity but didn't believe in the existence of the "electron" - a fundamental aspect of the universe that creates electricity
you could also never know how much you don't know. tesla prob thought he know a bunch of chit but little did he know there's an even smaller world than the elementary particles we originally knew
how about answering whether the universe is finite or infinite and whether we can replicate consciousness or the "hard problem of consciousness"?
get away from the quantifying and look into the "qualia" -
Feelings and experiences vary widely. For example, I run my fingers over sandpaper, smell a skunk, feel a sharp pain in my finger, seem to see bright purple, become extremely angry. In each of these cases, I am the subject of a mental state with a very distinctive subjective character.
There is something it is like for me to undergo each state, some phenomenology that it has. Philosophers often use the term ‘qualia’ (singular ‘quale’) to refer to the introspectively accessible, phenomenal aspects of our mental lives. In this broad sense of the term, it is difficult to deny that there are qualia. Disagreement typically centers on which mental states have qualia, whether qualia are intrinsic qualities of their bearers, and how qualia relate to the physical world both inside and outside the head. The status of qualia is hotly debated in philosophy largely because it is central to a proper understanding of the nature of consciousness. Qualia are at the very heart of the mind-body problem.
