Been thinking more about an options strategy - lets say Im a long term holder of PLTR.
Instead of doing a covered call for 2/19, what would happen if I did weekly covered calls at a strike price that doesnt have a great chance of happening:
If strike price is hit, my shares get sold, I keep the premium, and I just buy back in immediately and do another covered call.
If strike price isn’t hit, I keep premium and do another covered call.
Isnt this more profitable than doing a single covered call a month or more away? Where is the risk?
If share price dipped ridiculously low the call would just expire worthless and nothing happens except I earn premium and my share value goes down.

If youre really long on a stock then you're not gonna let it get exercised.
Similarly if youre just trying to make trade then youre still better off selling a put.
Also not sure if you know this but you can sell calls even if you don't have 100 shares. If you buy a call you can sell a call. Or you can do call credit spreads, but they kinda suck.
I do weeklies on all my covered calls. You can also technically get higher premium by selling 4 weeklies than 1 monthly.
However if youre expecting a drop then monthlies are better.

I tend to monitor my stocks all day so obv if strike is reached I would wait for the right time to buy in, wouldnt neccessarily buy at the end of a bull run.

If youre worried about missing out on gains then it would probably be more prudent to rollout your covered call.
Look up poor man's covered calls.

I think my biggest goof of the year has been allowing my QQQ covered calls to be exercised rather than just paying the $800 or whatever to buy to close my position... if I would have kept QQQ for ~4 more months, I would have held it for a year and been exposed to capital gains tax instead of income tax. I could have saved ~$5k by paying capital gains tax instead of income tax on those shares if I would have just bought the calls back instead of letting them get exercised

I bought one contract for a covered call on TDA. Have no idea what the numbers mean now and cant find videos online. Their support line is a long hold.
It shows my purchase price of $.36 (the bid which I understand), a current price of $.515, and a gain that shows negative $15 or so (premium of one contract was $36).
Does this mean if I were to close the call early, I’d be losing some premium since I’m paying a larger price? And the gain (that currently shows red) is the value of the contract?
Thought it was something alarming but if I’m correct then there’s nothing wrong with seeing red. I’m guessing it means I purchased the option at a good price and now it’s getting more expensive as the price gets closer to strike?
Is the gain pretty much irrelevant if the strike price is never reached? And if I close the call, do I actually lose any shares?

WHY IS TESLA RALLYING?!?
Seriously don't get it. They miss a target (stock rallied when target announced), overall market is sliding, competition is ramping up, they're already at insane FPE, political headwinds, etc etc. I don't get it.
My GME puts are keeping me from hopping off a roof tho so that's cool.

Another option question: lets say PLTR is $24.00 and I think it might hit $24.50 today.
If the premium on a weekly for this week was $.85 and I had 1500 shares for example, wouldn’t it be profitable for me to purchase 15 contracts, pocket the premium, and buy back in when favorable?
$24.50 has the highest premium for the week at $.85 (at the time this paragraph was written) so I’d be making an easy $1275 whether or not it gets to $24.50
Heck, the premium for a $24 weekly is $.95 and current PLTR price is $23.90. Wouldnt it be EASY money to purchase 15 contracts and make nearly $1500 on a 10 cent price movement?
Or is there no guarantee of assignment?
I have to be missing something. There is no way I can just wait until PLTR drops to $23.40, buy 15 covered calls at $23.50 strike with $.95 premium, and make $1425 once it hits $23.50, and then REPEAT this process all day.

At the same time you have analysts predicting suspiciously conservative numbers, giving credence to the belief that some analysts are low balling so they can sell a story of beaten estimates
