Personally I'd jump at the opportunity to hit a VIP theatre and watch some blockbusters on the big screen while munching down on overpriced theatre food + drinks

Until Apple/amazon/etc start offering new releases directly to your home tv.

Hollywood isn’t even making movies now, are they?

I just don’t see the same buzz around the brick-and-mortar theaters coming back.

But this isnt the norm 95% of the time at a theater. Not saying i disagree with you, but when people are forced home and can watch new releases in the comfort of their own home with their own food and beverages, and a SIGNIFICANTLY lower cost, you cant argue that they may now have a value proposition on their hands where they say "is this chit really worth it?" A lot more than they used to.

Not to mention when you live in metropolitan areas, your chances of having an actually enjoyable experience decreases astronomically. like 8 months before the shut down, an Alamo Draft House opened a few blocks from us. Now THAT was worth it. But going to regal cinema at the Staples area was a legit gamble if you were gonna have to tell an urban youth to shut the fukk up constantly or not.

This too.

The last handful of times I went to a normal theater were absolutely miserable because of the people who go there.

The won't die but it may take a hit long term. I certainly wouldn't invest in them right now.



There are two theaters in my city that have reopened. Aside from regular screenings they also allow people to do private viewings for a couple of hundred dollars. (Just imagine if you and about 10-15 friends want to get together for a private viewing and rent out an entire screen). They aren't slammed packed busy every day but they are certainly doing business.


There will always be older couples that want to do movie dates to relive their youth. Along with younger teens that want to do nights out at the movies.

Disney just released Soul, I would have gone to see that in the theatre even though it's not a blockbuster per se. Can't comment on broader trends but I definitely enjoy the brick and mortar theater


Something that has crossed my mind lately is the impact on stuff like this if more people do start working from home longer term. Work tends to be a big social outlet for a lot of people, I know it is for me, and working from home might make people inclined to chase more socialization outside of work hours. I'm skeptical that work from home will stay long term to any large extent, but if it does then I could see upward trends in anything that helps people get physically around other people for that social connection

Generally people don’t go sit in the dark and not talk for two plus hours to socialize.

Hence why a movie theater was always discouraged for first dates.

I just don’t see them being more than a novelty in 5 or so years unless someone finds a very innovative way to fill the seats. ****, I’d say drive-in theaters may pop.

Movies in the theatre can be a lot more than just sitting in the dark. It’s not a close social connection, but you’re sharing the experience with everyone else in the room. When a good joke hits and everyone erupts in laughter, or something exciting happens and the theatre cheers

Probably catch some flak from Marvel haters, but watching Infinity War in the theatre on release week was fukking awesome

I ain’t investing in them, but I certainly hope theatres don’t go away

Sold cc on MRO which could be why oil is up lol. Sold it for .13 now at .77 I might close it at a loss Saudi said they are cutting production. It expires Friday so might just hope theta kills it.

As far as movie theaters... I don’t think they’ll die. I think going to the movies is more of an experience. And tbh I was hesitant to pay $19.99 to rent a movie the other day. So I’m sure other people are as well.

It will probably take a while for the movie industry to return, but I think it will return.
