Look, I get why people want to wait. My initial inclination was to wait too. But after reading more about it and realizing what is at stake, I know taking the vaccine is the right thing to do here.
Then why is everything saying that the vaccine isn't going to prevent you from spreading the disease nor preventing you from getting it, it is just to lessen the symptoms if you get it?

And they are sticking with the idea that asymptomatic carriers are the ones spreading this, then how is the vaccine going to work?

Is it half?

And why can't cured cases count towards herd immunity?

The specific number depends on the parameters of the disease fed into the SEIR model. I think the estimates are 60-80% of the population. Cured cases do count. Scott Atlas' idea isn't without some logic. They wanted to infect all the young while keeping the old safe. The reason this was dumb is about 1/4 of the deaths were people under 65, that the young also have some at risk people who would need to be protected, and that covid has other negative effects on public health and life even if you survive and do not die. It is also logistically impossible to separate the old and the young in this country to that extent. The reason it was criminal was that they also slowed the testing to help Trump's election numbers, and this may have resulted in many preventable deaths.

lol y tho? Because not all cured cases are immune?

From what I've heard, not all vaccinations result in immunity. What's the difference?

Also, the FDA is not the end-all be-all of information, and virus's are always going to come and go. This isn't polio. If I was actually at risk of death or dismemberment, I'd certainly want a vaccine. But fighting every bug or virus with science is nonsensical. The goal is to attain equilibrium within nature, not to dominate and control every aspect of existence.

Cured cases do count. They are generally taken to be immune. The vaccinations have been seen to be effective with a 2nd dose. Your body maintains certain antibodies for a specific period and stops making them if you're not infected with the antigen after a while. For coronaviruses, this time is relatively short. Your body is supposed to keep memory cells that basically store the instructions on how to make these antibodies if needed, and so if you ever get really sick again, this cell will be activated and start replicating and making a bunch of offspring, of whom those with high affinity antibody binding get stimulated to replicate and so on. That's right. Your immune system is literally an illustration of evolution at work.

Some of the vaccinations may result in an antibody that binds the vaccine antigen very well, but somehow misses the mark on the real life virus particle. This can happen because it bound to another site and not the typical expected binding site. The antibodies are produced basically by random variation, and then that genetic algorithm proceeds in that direction to make a higher affinity binding molecule.

This virus is certainly quite dangerous. It isn't polio, but it's pretty bad.

Videos too long and thread too long so here for some cliffs.

Op since you’re the expert, just answer me this:

What is the estimated mortality rate based on the estimated actual number of people infected and not what is recorded as infected?

The reason I ask is because my friend is a nurse who works at a construction site, she tested all the employees and a lot of them had it, but all were unaware. So it’s probably the case that the infected is far higher than what we have recorded, meanwhile, the death numbers would remain the same thus drastically lowering the mortality rate.

If that were the case, it would be more or less the same as the regular flu.

The only way to really answer the above would be to take a decent sized town and do a antibody test on the population. Take the number of total positives from that, and number of deaths and you got your true number.

In the case of that construction site, the symptomatic rate was 0%, and the mortality rate was 0%. 20+ infected, very small sample size of course. But they probably should have larger reliable data before they decide to imprison everyone in their homes.

Sorry I misread above.

I've seen a handful of articles about long-term covid effects, but nothing that raises an alarm for me. People talk about excessive fatigue, 'brain fog,' etc. but these ailments sound like the effects on an already weak population - which, no doubt, America and most of the west, have. Now granted, if there is a legitimate connection of covid having physiological/neurological effects, sure, I don't want those either. But if I have a fatalistic approach to life, if I believe that we coevolved over hundreds of thousands and millions of years with other viral and bacterial elements, is there not a possibility that our fear, and aversion to germs and disease will only continue to weaken our biological resistance to them?

Are we so dependent on science now that our continued evolutionary success is dependent on the miracles we produce in labs?

I appreciate your reasoned and empirical responses.

This is the thinking I find at the bottom of lots of peoples' beliefs. Whether it's distrust of the government, hesitation towards vaccines, efficacy of lockdowns; post-enlightenment thinking cuts a lot of the fat from humanism, which is a difficult pill for broad-belief-minded people to swallow.

They are to reduce anxiety among the Karen public. Masks are not slowing spread. I read a paper a couple of months ago that said if 70% of Americans wore masks, Covid would go away quickly afterward. 82-92% of Americans were already wearing them when they wrote that. This might be the most chit post ITT.
I’ll point out again Wincel, in May of 2020 the CDC released the results of 14 individual studies conducted by various universities and medical institutions on the effectiveness of the mask in preventing the spread or preventing contracting the influenza virus, which is 220 nm's on average. The results were all the same. Neither did the mask slow down or prevent the spread of the virus nor did it prevent or slow down the infection rate of the virus. So if the masks do nothing for the influenza virus why would it be effective against a much smaller virus?

https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/eid/article/26/5/19-0994_article

“In our systematic review, we identified 10 RCTs that reported estimates of the effectiveness of face masks in reducing laboratory-confirmed influenza virus infections in the community from literature published during 1946–July 27, 2018. In pooled analysis, we found no significant reduction in influenza transmission with the use of face masks (RR 0.78, 95% CI 0.51–1.20; I2 = 30%, p = 0.25)”

Masks are making it worse. A person wearing a mask is breathing in his own germs all day long. He breathes them out, as he should, but then he breathes them back in. It is evident that this unnatural process would increase the number and variety of germs circulating and replicating in his body; even creating active infection. Along with this, a decrease in oxygen intake, which occurs when a mask is worn, would allow certain germs to multiply in the body—germs which would otherwise be routinely wiped out or diminished in the presence of an oxygen-rich environment. Here’s the key: Both the PCR and antibody tests are known for registering false-positive results, since they cross-react with germs which have nothing to do with the reason for the test. If wearing a mask increases the number and variety of germs replicating in the body, and also increases the chance of developing an active infection…then the likelihood of a false-positive PCR or antibody test is increased. In other words, masks promote the number of so-called COVID cases.

A new study on covid stated: The SARS-CoV-2 disease burden may be much larger than reported COVID-19 cases owing to underreporting. Even after adjusting for underreporting, a substantial gap remains between the estimated proportion of the population infected and the proportion infected required to reach herd immunity. Additional seroprevalence surveys are needed to monitor the pandemic, including after the introduction of safe and efficacious vaccines.

You do realize the mask is to stop you spreading the virus and protect other people not yourself, because most people don't even know they have it for a few days before the symptoms hit, and their annoying mask they are wearing is to do the same for you and protect you yes? Some people are so ignorant. I know healthy people who are now DEAD.

No mask crew checking in. The only time I wear a mask is grocery shopping and even then it's below my nose.

I see *******s here in Cuckfornia wearing one in their cars and walking outside lmao. MASKS DON'T WORK.

I've traveled out of state, don't wash my hands before touching my face, never use hand sanitizer, have been working out at the gym for the last 10 months, never wear a mask and I still don't have it.

If you’re an incel who has demonstrated zero ability to engage and enjoy the outside world socially, one of the few things that would make you feel a shred of “happiness” is to try to convince other people to be just as miserable as you are and live just as sad of a lifestyle.

Keep that in mind when reading this thread.

You're right some people don't need advice, and should just get a solid dose of reality soon. Hopefully. Oh and I'm not a leftist before anyone tries commenting to me. Hopefully some of you have some sort of common sensenot sure what your comment even has to do with this thread though tbh.

Like I said save your breath and hope reality hits hard. Might be a **** thing to say but it certainly did for myself and others.
