Is being cryogenically frozen pointless? (srs)

You can pay to be cryogenically frozen. Is it completely pointless?
Does the very act of freezing a person completely kill their brain so that even 100,000 years in the future you could not be salvaged? If that is the general consensus, why do people do it?
Or is it technically possible with todays freezing techniques, to perhaps some day in the future resurrect you with full cognitive function? But most likely in some kind of cyborg body, or you take an anti ageing medication, or your mind is just uploaded to the cloud.

Im not aware of any animal studies where a rat or something has been frozen then brought back to life and it acted the same way it did prior. I believe there is a frog that exists which can survive in a block of ice for MONTHS at a time however, and can then be thawed and continue as normal. Pretty mind blowing

i'll assume they cryogenically freeze because the leading experts in the field believe on a long enough timeline they'll be able to successfully revive them with future technology

Thats what you'd like to think but it could just as easily be quackery, thats why im hoping someone can chime in with the realism of saving a human mind after hundreds or thousands of years of being frozen. It may not be at all possible with todays freezing technology

Yea but it has negatives. Mainly it costs a lot, money which could have gone to people close to you or family. I guess the other downside is the stigma attached to your close friends and family. 'Oh there's Sarah, did you know her whacko grandad got himself frozen when he died'

Very slim chance of being brought back is better than no chance. Worst case scenario, you never know it didn't work.

There are serious issues with tissue damage during freezing and thawing process, although in the last few years some research has claimed to freeze & thaw a rabbit brain without any tissue damage (obviously the rabbit brain remained dead, but that's not the point). So if the structure can remained intact, it's not impossible to conceive of a future where some means to restore function to the brain & plug it into something could exist. Still a very big jump from there to restoring the whole body though. Everything we do today would've been considered magic a few hundred years ago, so who knows?

100% think it could be a cash grab from dying rich people lol. i think the only reason it's not realistic yet is because technology hasn't caught up. I'd like to think if we could manually handwrite code that landed us on the moon that 1 day we'll be able to thaw out a dead corpse and Frankenstein that **** back to life!

I do plan on getting cryogenically frozen myself tbh so I can continue my career as an international man of mystery. Groovy baby.

There might be some way to do this in the future, but it would probably require some different technology than is available today, as part of the "saving" process, not just freezing them.

Also, the old CEO of the freezing company most rich people use (like Ted Williams) came out and said the bodies are treated like chit and fall apart. Ted Williams head literally fell off of his body. So... yeah not going to be doing this personally.

I bet that too. The only things which stop me being frozen IMO is the fact that:

1. We have never successfully frozen and brought ANY animal brain back to life and have it maintain 100% cognition, and
2. We don't currently even know where consciousness comes from. Once we do, we could hypothetically extract that and implant it into something else.

I bet even if we had a super computer which could 100% map an adult human brain, we still would notKNOWfor sure if it is conscious or just imitating what we programmed it to

I was thinking longer term, say 1000+ years. Never before have we had the capability to preserve a body so its basically fresh even after thousands of years.
The closest we ever got was frozen ancestors, which were far from 'intact' due to oxygen, bacteria and temp changes etc slowly degrading the body

That's just a clone though, not you.

If there was some way to freeze and preserve tissue while alive, maybe. The frog example is interesting, slowing down the cell turnover of a terminally ill billionaire and freezing his brain is fine I guess, it's not like any of us are going to have those options anyway
